Description On Saturday June 28th of 2008 Carly and I got the sad news that Michael Turner had passed away. At the time we were up at Wizard World Chicago, and I told Carly I was going to do a tribute piece to Michael Turner. As most of you know, or at least if you have eyes to see with you can tell he was a huge inspiration in my work. So I felt that this was something I had to do. I didn't know him as well as some people, but I at least had the honor of knowing him. 2 days after we got home from Wizard World Chicago, I finished drawing this piece. Unfortunately shortly into July, Carly was in a bad car accident, and she was unable to color it for a while. So I do apologize for the delay in getting this to you all, but fortunately Carly is alive and well, and she is back to coloring. So for the first time ever I would like to submit this piece colored by some one other than myself on my Deviant Art gallery. Thank you for the amazing colors sweety I love you.

Oh no, I can't believe I never heard about this.

His work was so often criticized, it frustrated me. I hoped I might meet him someday to tell him that they're all wrong. The man knew beauty. I've never seen an artist who could draw more powerful, more deep, more shining eyes. I could stare for ages at the eyes of his characters. I'll miss his work.

Glad to hear that Carly's fine. This is a great image and homage to Turner. I love the light from the sky in the upper left corner.

Funny how I thought this image would suit so well the recent and so big loss of one of comics' legends. I mean this guy had it all: talents, humanity and heart combined... proof that the best do go first.

Very beautiful piece of work, marvelous colors by Superchica, who once again out-performs herself

@ namekianpikkoro7: If I recall it right it was a Wizard Magazine Cover you think of!!

This piece would have been perfect for the Fan-tribute we are working on at the aspenboards, unfortunately the deadline was weeks ago and we all haven't posted our pieces yet, but I doubt that they will come close to this quality!
This piece is awesome!!

Very similar to the page in one of Michael Turner's book where Wonder Woman, Batman, Superman and so forth are standing over a grave. Too bad my ex has almost everything of mine! I don't remember all of the characters, the title of the book or the page number...

particle9 In reply to ConceptCat [2008-11-12 00:54:56 +0000 UTC]

oh acctually I intended it to be that way. I believe it was a JLA cover where Batman Wonder Woman Superman and other leaguers were around the grave.so this piece is more of a nod to one of his more well known pieces, but it had his characters surrounding the grave instead of the DC characters. normally I dont do art work based on his compositions but I felt that this one was appropriate.

Yeah, I only spent 3hrs there though. Couldn't get my friends to go with me on a Fri. and had to work Sat. Short and sweet, but it was kewl seeing all the talent in one place. I can't remember the last con I went to, it's been so long, so it's like my first time all over again.
Was it a good time for you guys?

This is amazing. I made it my wallpaper, not only because it's a great piece, but also because Michael Turner was also a great influence for me.
What I'm basically asking here, is, as I mentioned, I made it my wallpaper and so was wondering if you'd mind if it appeared on my deviantart page (under desktop).
Of course, in the post, a link to this page will be given.

I got to say a few words at the Micheal Turner Tribute panel at ComicCon 08 in San Diego. I got really choked up because I lost my grandad 18 days before he died, so the idea of people losing someone close to them was very fresh in my mind.

OMG, i didn't know! He was my favorite artist, I still have the entire Fathom collection. I like idolized his work for a long time now. I even followed your work as well as beretta92 because your work resembled so much of Michael Turner's. He will be missed.

MT was of huge inspiration to a great many aspiring pencil-artists, myself included. I'm deeply moved by this sentiment... and the work itself, so reminiscent of Turner's earlier style, is in and of itself quite moving.

Beautiful tribute, to a beautiful talent.

Hey This is really cool man it really does Michael Turner Justice. I went to his Eulogy at Comicon this year and at the end everyone seriously felt like they lost their best friend. So its really cool to see someone deliver such a nice piece in his honor.

On another note I was wondering if you could give me some pointers on a scene that I finished coloring and posted and let me know whats missing?

Thanks and once again great work!

Thank you both for taking the time to make this and share it with us. Good job.
