Ha.. I wonder why.. not that I take that as a bad thing.. I absolutely ADORE Sempe. I grew up seeing his work all the time not realizing whose it was. But his work is incredibly pure...simple... amazing. A far cry from mine!

Let me try to explain (I hope my english is good enough)
First of all I love the work of SempΓ©, most of all I love his Paris and his bicycle drawings. I love the sentimental feeling I get by looking at his work. He must be a gentle person. Looking at his paintings takes me back to my childhood days. Sometimes I can feel the warm summer breeze only by looking at his work.
And so is your work. Full of joy, of happiness.
And so is your work: full of joy, full of happiness, aerial and colourful. It makes my heart sing.
That's why I said your work reminds me of SempΓ©.

What a beautiful thing to say, and i totally get it.
When I see Sempe's work , I can hear the noise from the kids at recess, in the school yard, I can feel the sun burning my skin in summer( I was into "le petit Nicolas" more than his Paris stuff..and I can hear the birds chirping

I really love "le petit Nicolas" (in german it's called "Der kleine Nick"). The imagination and fantasy of RenΓ© Goscinny in cooperation with the wonderful drawings of SempΓ© creates one of the best literature for young people - and for older people with a young heart.
