I love how this links back around to having the same feeling towards your son's art! I've had many instances of seeing the art of people younger than me and thinking about how much further ahead I could be right now if I was at that level at their age, just have to ignore it and keep going with your own work. <:

That's true, it;s hard not to compare with others... especially when you feel you're "not skilled enough"...
Everybody's different and that's what is so exciting in art.
I hate when other watchers go to sb's gallery and say what is done wrong :/ Everyone of us see the world in different way and also wants to show and share differnt things, themes, topics.

This is such a hard lesson for the aspiring artist. Hell, even established artists (you) question their talent when confronted with exceptional art. Your words of advice are so true. We just need to remember them

You rote this on-going lesson conversation beautifully. Artists and our fans both need to realize this is, and will be, a constant periodic dialogue. My daughter and I have a version of this conversation often, role swapping as needed; she is 33, and coming of a nearly 8 year hiatus from being able to draw and paint, mine has been a bit shorter than that. We're both knocking the rust off. Oh, yeah, we both work best with very different media, and styles, while sharing studio space.

Bon, j'ai bien vu que vous ne répondiez pas aux commentaires, mais je vais l'écrire tout de même : ces planches tendres et humoristiques sont parmi les meilleures que j'ai pu lire ces dernières décennies. Vos illustrations sont aussi extraordinaires. Il est rare que je sois à ce point touché, attendri, par de simples images. On en voit tant et tant, de nos jours... pourtant, les vôtres se sont démarquées du premier coup d’œil.
Bravo.
Et merci d'avoir partagé en particulier celle-ci, que je pourrai méditer tout aussi bien que montrer à ceux de mes enfants qui s'essayent à l'écriture et... se comparent à d'autres.
