you know, you're one of the few artists I've seen on this site that appreciates the beauty of a city. sure, the countryside stuff you do is great too, but your portrayal of the inner city in uniquely optimistic. I really like that.

i LOVE cities... biking through San Francisco was one of the best part ( for me) about living there..in the morning, in the evening, in the winter or summer.. it was just amazing!!!

I know I compare your art to Sempé a lot of times but this one definitely has this kind of vibe. And I love the
highlights of orange lights contrasting with the rather monochrome palette. Definitely a good, atmospheric piece.

Ha.. when I first read your comment I was wondering where you would see Sempe in there, but now that I think of it... yes.. totally.. the vast city and the little people... different look but I totally get what you are saying. THANK You that is a huge compliment for me!

Ho no... I LOVE Sempe. When I was growing up, there were always quite a few of his books around. We would read the "Petit Nicolas" in class, and just in general, I would see his art here and there a lot. Being French,it was just one of those things.
His art always stood out though because of the feeling they gave me. A few artists would do that in fact.. Mordillo , Ernst ( he had a page in Spirou called the Clin d'oeil which always had a funny moment and an ambiance that I loved) and, of course, Sempe.
I am sure it just sipped in my work without my knowing it or thinking about it.

I had , more or less the same experience. We had two
framed paintings of Sempé at home. One of them was a child
looking at the snow from his window.
And then I've read Le Petit Nicolas and his later works.
Your art reminds me of it, not only on a stylistic level but also
on its atmosphere and soul. Keep up this excellent work !

I can hear the train wheels going and the engine wheezing and feel the vibrations in the seats... great picture. The end-of-the-day feeling, like you're the last person left on earth and everyone else is somehow a ghost or not really there. Thank you for this.

That's the whole thing.. I don't think about them.. I just do them. I have a hunch of what I want to do, and I figure it out as I go!
