As all guardians eventually do, Penumbra set out to find a ward at a young age. She did not find one, however, for many years, and eventually gave up her search. Shunned by her clan, and with no purpose, she set out alone.
Wandering through both the lands and her life as a nomad, she took up with a band of misfits from a number of different flights and started her own clan. She and her band of 'rakish ruffians' (as she likes to call them) explore the lands. Rather than a literal wealth of treasure and gems, they hoard a wealth of stories and information- a strong sense of unfulfilled curiosity and wanderlust draws them forever onward.
She is very protective of her mishmash group, especially the hatchlings- having given up on finding a suitable ward to guard, she's taken to calling them her collective ward. The little ones enjoy decking her out in trinkets and knick knacks they find on their adventures. Despite her solitary nature she is looked up to and has been unofficially dubbed the leader of the clan.
Penumbra is the sole remaining progenitor of the clan. Nobody knows what happened to her former mate, Brontide.
