I used a very dark color red blush and took a thin makeup sponge, like the ones you use for applying eyeshadow, and just drew lines. But, since it's powder and apt to ruboff easily, I used a prosthetics gum overtop to seal it. I had originally wanted to use molding wax but it's horrible stuff and really don't suggest it because it's terribly hard to mold/doesn't look even slightly realistic/clogs up your pores and gives you terrible acne for weeks.

There was another product I looked into but was unable to find at any of my local halloween stores called Rigid Collodion. It looked pretty good on all the examples I've seen but I can't give you a first hand review of it
