Description
I'm not a narcoleptic but i hear sleep paralysis is most common in people who suffer from it. Over the past few months, i have had numerous, almost nightly episodes. Mine are most commonly visual, where i can see the surrounding room very vividly, and the scaries are vivid, too.Sleep paralysis occurs either when falling asleep, or when awakening. The paralysis can last from several seconds to several minutes. Here, the paralysis may be accompanied by terrifying hallucinations and an acute sense of danger. Sleep paralysis is particularly frightening to the individual because of the vividness of such hallucinations, and the inability to move or escape the situation.
I made this piece to express what dreaming is like when I have paralysis episodes. My body becomes a prison from which you can't escape. Trying to stimulate an awakening push or fall is impossible here. My chest becomes the heaviest thing in the world, so heavy, not even sound escapes me.

As a narcoleptic, I would say this is a fairly accurate representation of features of sleep paralysis.

I'm not a narcoleptic either... but for a year I had all the symptomes... sleep paralysis, odd sleeping habits, hallucinations and such. Now it stopped, don't know what happened or what I did. I hope you're doing well with that, sleep paralysis is horrible...

It was stress related, I believe. Once everything settled a little it gradually got to a point where i could recognize what was happening and turn it into lucid dreams, so that is a plus.

This is an amazing work! This is exactly what it feels like when I try to escape sleep paralysis. I thrust my midsection upward, trying to get loose so I'll have an out-of-body experience. I'm sure I don't look quite as "dancey" or sexy when I do it though, lol. But I can definitely relate to what you're going through with the sleep paralysis. It's strange how many people suffer from that nowadays, or maybe it's just my line of work that brings those people to me. I hope your condition clears up. If you'd like to talk to someone about it, you are welcome to contact me. I've come up with a few tips over the years for how to avoid having it happen. It's gotten a lot better for me but it still happens occasionally. I'd be interested to hear about narcolepsy. I've started to wonder if I could have that.

It only happens to me when i'm stressed and it's stopped completely now that i know how to deal with it. Dont get me wrong, when i made this and was having numerous eppisodes, it was horrorfying but I'm kind of greatful for it now, because once it happens If i can calm myself down enough, i dont wake and can lucid dream.

That's good that you got to the point where you can deal with it. It can actually be pleasant, and even ecstatic, if you understand how to control and direct it. But I still have times when I'm afraid and want to just wake up NOW!
I still love this picture. Thank you for making it.

The concept and execution are a wonderful combination. I've seen similar images before, but this one struck me more than most as successfully conveying your intent. Bravo.

its not really a disease or anything. Most people are supposed to have at least one in their life. I think they are mostly triggered by extreme stress.

And great suffering can definitely be translated into great art, as proved here. (:

This is exceptional. I've suffered from sleep paralysis for a couple of years, it occurs every night. Mostly just audible but visual three or four times a month at least. The photo describes the feeling in almost a perfect way. Lovely!

Thankyou. I really wanted to make one to kind of explain it, because it's difficult to do that verbally, i find. I actually really wanted an input from someone who knows about it, too.
so thankyou, and i'm glad you enjoyed it.
