Description This was something I came up with for the Assassins Creed 3 Fan Art Competition ( [link] )

But I found out just today that unfortunately it can't be accepted because it's a contest for US people only, I'm in Australia so I'm a bit out of luck.. Ah well.

At least I can show you all now Fun to do, I'm definitely doing more, I'm really excited for AC3, only two weeks away now. Let me know what you think!

UPDATE:
Also, I forgot to mention before, but the idea for the pose came from Greg Capullo's sketch: [link]
So I can't take full credit for this, only found out about the competition 2 days before so I was in a bit of a rush with this, loved the idea of his pose when I saw it..

I'm excited for this game! I saw some of the other contestants pieces and it really is a shame that it was restricted just the US. This would have gone far IMO. You have a great composition and really dynamic character. Should be proud of this one!

Wacky waving inflatable leg man!

Like others, though, I like it aside from that! I don't think that bit in the sketch was supposed to be a leg. And if it was... well, that's a messed up leg no matter how you look at it!

Anyways, coloring's great. F for plagiarism

If this is for a competition, should you really be tracing another artist's sketch without permission?
It's not very professional. Is it even allowed?

Do you know for sure that he traced it? He could have used it as a reference...
Patrick is a great artist and has skills... I seriously doubt that he traced the sketch...

Baylee-Jae In reply to DarxSamurott [2012-10-15 02:17:13 +0000 UTC]

Just because it's not traced doesn't mean it's not plagiarized. Copying is still stealing.

DarxSamurott In reply to Baylee-Jae [2012-10-16 00:18:58 +0000 UTC]

I'm sorry but it's hard to 'copy' a pose... Human's are complicated what if I made a sketch of a man sitting down and someone 'copied' the pose.

Would that be stealing?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Baylee-Jae In reply to DarxSamurott [2012-10-16 02:45:57 +0000 UTC]

If they exactly copied yours, then yes. A true artist would make their own poses instead of copying from others. There is obviously a limit on how many poses you can do, and many will resemble others by accident, but this guy's was no accident.

👍: 0 ⏩: 0

Lew-Legend In reply to Baylee-Jae [2012-10-15 02:51:41 +0000 UTC]

Referencing poses isn't a crime. Artists reference each other all the time. I can see how this could be a problem if it was straight up traced but there's so much more in the picture that he did, as in the details of the background, costume of the characters. All of the details make this work unique on it's own. If referencing, or in your words, "copying" is stealing, then we're all art thieves on this site.

Baylee-Jae In reply to Lew-Legend [2012-10-15 03:31:29 +0000 UTC]

If someone is going to copy someone else's work, they should at least give credit to the original artist. And yes, exactly copying someone's pose is stealing. Using it as inspiration is one thing. Exactly copying is another.

Lew-Legend In reply to Baylee-Jae [2012-10-15 04:26:07 +0000 UTC]

I'll admit this is very similar to the sketch. But I can see differences. He raised the left leg a bit and turned the head inward. Referencing and copying a pose are not two different things in my opinion. There can be a grey area. And I'm not trying to justify this completely. The only thing the artist referenced and use very closely was the pose itself. I don't count this as art theft, he put a lot of work into this after the pose. The artist put fine details into this, as in the facial structure, clothing, etc. It's between the artist that did the pose and this one how they are going to settle this if it's even happening. I've seen situations like this more than once and not just on deviantart, and everyone has their own opinion. This is my opinion on this specific piece. No others.

fishxlantern In reply to katygrace [2012-10-14 23:48:22 +0000 UTC]

Actually, this is a pretty common layout, especially for dynamic, comic book-style illustrations. The only thing that makes me think it could possibly have any correlation to the sketch you linked to is the unusual position of the left leg. Even then, that sketch is still incredibly loose, and in this image the figure is turned slightly more toward the side and is less head-on than that one, so even if it were linked to the sketch, at the most it may have been based on the same pose, but certainly not traced.

...which is pretty much all to say, be careful when you accuse someone of tracing. While it does happen, it's not always as commonplace as people tend to think it is, and it's generally pretty obvious.

As always awesome, but like everyone else is saying, why does it look like his left leg/foot is broken? XD

Also, I think Connor's skin collor should be a little more toned, since he's an Native American, he looks a little too white for that on here.
Maybe have also one of his hair with a feather attached to it, come out from under that hood, perhaps.

But for the rest is awesome, and I also can't wait for it to come out.

How is it stolen? dont be an asshole man with your weak accusations....

Its not like someone has a fucking patent on the rights for one pose dude.

I guess any art with a person standing is considered stolen then huh?

Dont be an idiot.

I agree that it's a weak accusation, but don't be rude just because of that.

The pose (not the ones standing/being dead on the ground, that's too generic) in this picture is rather unique with that left leg that's been pointed out already. If a source picture was provided one should easily be able to tell if it was used as reference, or in the worst case, straight out copied/traced.

sharinggansamuel In reply to spoki0 [2012-10-15 00:36:12 +0000 UTC]

Sorry I can be as rude as I want ._.

But saying something as blatant as that other guy annoyed me because there's

alot of bullshit these days on DA.

I believe an accomplished guy like Patrick wouldn't copy off other people.

I believe a link have been provided to you already.
The way I see it, that is clearly a stolen pose.
