Description My Facebook page: [link]

I've never played any of the Devil May Cry games before, but when I started getting into this I absolutely loved it, just completed the game today actually. SO EPIC! And the music to the game is amazing, I have a few new favorite bands to listen to now.

With this piece I wanted to portray the epicness that the game throws out so well. And show off how badass Dante can really be, I love his character concept, everything just works so well. I want to do another pic with him using his sword, I'm also hoping to find a good real life replica of his new sword, damn that would look sweet on my wall

And again, if you haven't got yourself a copy of my 56-page book you can get one from here: [link]

Lol 20 minutes and you already have 75 faves without the need for groups. Awesome pic. It takes 15 days for my ones to get like 10 faves while being in 10 groups.

That's popularity for you. Groups will get quality artwork seen a little more for unknown artists, but all the people making the front page are pushed there by their fans. When I post something new I get about 1 fav a minute continuously for the first few hours, sometimes more, that's all my watchers faving it.
Getting seen on DA is like grinding in a jrpg

That's cool, but how do you exactly even 'rise through the ranks' in the first place? Is it just that one piece that you happen to submit one day and you instantly get like 15 watchers and hundreds of faves at a time? Or is it through time that you get so popular?

Shimmering-Sword In reply to WaterWizz [2013-01-24 13:01:05 +0000 UTC]

While some submissions will go much better than others, the only thing you can count on is that you'll get more popular over time, provided you regularly submit art and are nice to your fans of course. It's a slow grind until you can get your art close to the top of the 8 hour front page, from there your popularity will explode and the grind is over.

A lot of people had problems with the game's protagonist's looks. And it made them HATE the game on some bogus reasons. Because this game is suposed to be reboot.

Reboots are almost never welcomed by the old community. Sure, newbies like it, it makes no sense to them. But for people who followed the originals, reboots are always painful.

It might be a little too extreme for an example, but think of it like this: you were born into a certain family, lived with it, then someone takes them away from you with force, and gives you a completely random and unknown family for you to welcome.

Arppis In reply to sanguine92 [2013-01-23 10:22:29 +0000 UTC]

Yeps, I get that. People react strongly at change. I'm no stranger to DMC series, I played trough them all, and I have to say, if they want to see a bad DMC game, they should look at the 2nd game. That game sucked and is guilty of the thing they say about Dante.

Mostly thanks to the disconnected & impersonal plot, REALLY different Dante (meaning they took the jokes away and made him super serious) and you could complete the game by shooting Ebony and Ivory at bosses till they die. Now THAT was a bad Devil May Cry game.

I'd say that the new game doesn't repeat any of these sins, it just made Dante look different. His personality is still there. So that's why I guess I don't understand what the fuzz is about. I mean the Dante's looks aren't the best possible, but I really didn't like the 3rd game's outfit either. Still could play it trough, because the gameplay was awesome and the story was interesting.

Are people that superficial that they are ready to accept DMC2 because Dante looks the same but doesn't act like him at all? And at the same time say that this new game sucks because Dante looks bit different and acts the same? Hm.

zeratanus In reply to Arppis [2013-01-24 02:48:57 +0000 UTC]

I thought the 2nd game was pretty universally hated for those exact reasons. So... no, I don't think people accept DMC2 Dante or DMCevil May Cry Dante

Then... I don't see the problems. It's great.

Controls much better than the earlier games too. Has better plot. Characters are fleshed out much better. Level design is brilliant.

skormz In reply to Arppis [2013-03-12 13:03:26 +0000 UTC]

I would play dmc5 for the game itself... but I felt bad that the new designer was so egocentric to change dante's face to his own... i mean... who the heck changes the expression lines of an so old and well done character? :b

The only thing I will agree with is level design.

The plot is the very definition of hack writing.

Totally late to the party on this thread, but it's worth saying: Even if somebody thinks it's hack writing, the writing in DmC was still a million times better than the nonsense dialog from the original series.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Arppis In reply to MisterNefarious [2013-08-12 09:42:00 +0000 UTC]

I agree.

I guess people either look at the old series trough rose-tinted glasses, or they think minialist writing is better.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

MisterNefarious In reply to Arppis [2013-08-12 09:50:16 +0000 UTC]

Maybe, and I don't think minimalist is a problem in a game focused on action... But the old games had a LOT of pointless melodrama that really took me out of the action, whereas the reboot had plot that made me more interested in the action and where it went next.

I get that not everybody has to like everything I like, but I agree: the nostalgia goggles are strong with this series.

I loved the first game, twilight reboot doesnt interest me. I understand that its entirely personal and subjective reasoning, so there's nothing to argue about.

Mario has had some pretty radical changes, some of them were great some of them were bad, this is no different. I am glad they are taking risks with the franchise and trying to keep it alive, but I feel like no matter how good the new game is, it would have been even better if they managed to maintain and improve on the atmosphere and gothic design of the original franchise.

Arppis In reply to squiffel [2013-01-23 20:22:43 +0000 UTC]

There is nothing to argue about it indeed.

Just pondering why people judge the game on the looks alone. I usualy judge my games after playing them... but yeah, some people haven't liked the gameplay and that's ok.

For example, just tried the Metal Gear Revengeance and I did not like the block mechanic they made. I have no idea why they put it in same button as melee. And the blocking should be bread and butter in combat. Well, if they would have added tutorial it might have worked better. So there is one game people will propably say to me that "You just suck in it", but yeah I propably suck at playing that game. But atleast it's about gameplay and the real meat of the game. Not about who the main character is and how it looks.

squiffel In reply to Arppis [2013-01-23 20:32:41 +0000 UTC]

I won't play a game with medicore gameplay and controls, but I will play a game with medicore graphics. I don't like the look for Metal Gear Revengeange, I mean the graphics are great, but it looks like a shallow experience. I play a lot of Starcraft 2, so I like a lot of depth in my game mechanics, even if in the end its still a very arcadey game. I probably wouldn't say the original Devil May Cry had a lot of depth, it had a really appealing visual style and really fluid and addicting controls, so gameplay alone isnt enough for me to justifying buying a version of the game that departs from the original style that I enjoyed.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Arppis In reply to squiffel [2013-01-23 20:52:21 +0000 UTC]

Damn right. I'm with you there. Medicore gameplay sucks... well sometimes I play a game trough because of story. But those are rare exceptions.

And original DMC had a lot of depth gameplay-wise if you wanted to learn it all. Imo! The thing I dislike about the new DmC is the score system being too eager to give you score. But I enjoyed the rest of the game quite a bit. I was skeptical at first, but then I thought: Hey, I'll give it a try and the more I played it, more I enjoyed it. Good stuff!

squiffel In reply to Arppis [2013-01-23 21:01:16 +0000 UTC]

Its been so long since I played it, I remember it being a lot of fun to play, but I dont know how I'd rate it's mechanics now, so yeah, ill trust your judgement on that.

I feel like the original Dante was actually really mainstream for the time, Matrix Neo like character with a sort of final fantasy esque protagonist, set in a resident evil type environment. If anything the new reboot is true to the series capturing and putting a DMC spin on modern day tropes.

Arppis In reply to squiffel [2013-01-24 05:51:00 +0000 UTC]

That's true... Yeah, they tried to make Dante more plausable, like Rebelion appearing from his middleback-mark when the danger appears.
