In the 21st. century, a Lockheed needs an airbase with an absolutely guaranteed FOD free runway. And after a 10 days of combat, it needs 30 days of factory maintenance and a new paint job. It is 3 times over budget and 3 times over delivery time.
A Saab needs a somewhat straight piece of snowy highway, 10 minutes and 6 conscripts to refuel, rearm and clean the wind shield. When the engine needs some loving, they drop it in a few hours, somewhere in the middle of a forest, and put in a refurbished one.

If you extend that attitude to the future. With an unscheduled border war. An urgent need for lots and lots of escort carriers, NOW!!!!. Can't wait for that state of the art fleet carrier with billion dollar space superiority fighters.
Then the Marines take whatever is on the shelf. No time to see what the bidder with the biggest campaign donations and the most pork will deliver in 10 years. Adapt and overcome!

Actually the hammerheads are more manuverable than the Chig fighters, but Chig fighters are faster with better rate of climb.

thats odd cuase i went to the wiki for SAB wiki they said the chig were more manuverable i'll go edit that in thanks

slower rate of climb and less manuverable then a Chig fighter but it has heavier better weapons laod out and is better armored the then a chig bird so its a classic trade off
