Description
This piece was commissioned by Heroic Publishing for use as a card and a cover(Heroic Champions #57).Back in the mid- nineties, I had drawn a few issues of her and did a few covers, so it was definitely interesting to now digitally paint her. Most of this was done in Painter, using the chalk tool primarily. I'd never gotten to fool around that much in this program, and would love to say I learned a lot, but i was just winging it most of the time.

Thanks- I always admired Joe's work - I believe I did this piece after I met him at the Albany Con and used the technical advise he gave me about working in acrylics

Way to wing it. She looks fantastic and the pattern is a wonderful design. I'd be willing to bet you learned a lot more than you think you did. There is no way you could come out the other end of this exercise, with something that looks as good as this, and not be on the right side of the learning curve.

Thanks man- I appreciate it. I mostly just kept painting with chalk,in normal mode layer, adjusting the paper grain and the chalk's resat feature. The hair I used an acrylic bristol brush but really didnt do anything digitally complicated to get this. Maybe what I learned is not to over-think it and just consider basic pictorial aspects of a picture.

Sounds like a winning combination. A little bit of each tool and technique. Works for me.
