Aha! Of course it is. Though if they do a William Blake biopic starring Michael Gambon I shall claim victory regardless

Ooo- I'd watch that!
I was kinda surprised "In the Forest of the Night" never made a direct Blake ref beyond the title and the brief random presence of a tiger. Β Weird.

Yeah, well, they forgot to put a lot into that story... like the bits of the plot that made sense. (Not a season eight basher by any means, Capaldi is of course sensational, but really can't understand where all the love for Kill the Moon and In the Forest of the Night is coming from...)

Yeah, "Forest" was this season's Fear Her. Β I actually enjoyed Kill the Moon- though I guessed the twist way early b/c it's identical to the plot of an old SUPERFRIENDS episode! Β Generally, it's been a solid season and I'm more on board with the show than I have been for years- but I think the only real "instant classic" entries were Listen and Flatline. Β I also loved the Robin Hood one, which I know is a somewhat controversial opinion.

Well, to be fair, Robot of Sherwood wasn't Gatiss's worst script ever for the show. And Ben Miller was the very spitting image of Anthony Ainley. And, umm...

Glad to see Kevin the robot dinosaur in here! Despite only appearing in a few issues of the comic series i really liked him.

Even though his appearance was brief, he was too much of a crazy extreme oddity to leave out.
True story- I once pitched a DOCTOR WHO VS. GODZILLA crossover to IDW Comics, where Godzilla would've essentially become a "one off" companion toward the end (he even takes a TARDIS trip!). Β The one silver lining of that going nowhere is I didn't have to figure out how to include him in this.

Sarah Jane and Leela in the second row?Β Just that alone makes this an A+++ piece of work Β Now, please, take some time off and relax that hand.

I almost did! Β This was something like 160 layers in Photoshop- it kept crashing until I dialed down the resolution a bit and rebooted. Β Thank god I didn't even TRY to do this in CMYK.

Is that Decky towards the top staring at the massive T-Rex? Also I am interested in knowing who the Ice Warrior is, any help here?

PaulHanley In reply to DoctorWhoGuides [2014-10-27 18:33:40 +0000 UTC]
Yep! Β I skipped many of the DWA companions (mostly for sake of room), but I wanted some inclusion of them, thus Decky and Heather McCrimmon (on the right side of Wilf).
The Ice Warrior is Ssard, from the 8th Doctor Radio Times comic strip. Β I'll have an annotated version up in a few days to clear up questions like these.

Yeah, I was very keen to get as many "TARDIS pets" in there as I could. Β Thought about including the 8th Doctor's TARDIS bats and butterflies, but I was REALLY out of room, and I thought it might distract too much composition-wise to have them flying around in the pic.

You make all of them so easily recognizable, one can't make a mistake. I know many faces but they are also so many I've never seen. It's so cool that even Ramsey is here. Is there any order you've pictured them like your more favourite in front or something like that?
π: 0 β©: 1
PaulHanley In reply to PCamenzind [2014-10-27 16:40:42 +0000 UTC]
People shouldn't read TOO much into who's placed where- some of my very favorites (like Vicki) are way in the back b/c that's just how it worked out depending on factors like what color they were wearing, height, etc. Β But Clara definitely needed to be front and center since she's the current companion (plus it was a stipulation of the commission), and Sarah Jane not being featured prominently would be sacrilege (ditto the Brigadier, Rose, Ace, Jamie, K-9, etc). Β And some are positioned together b/c I like the implications of them having to stand near each other for a picture (the Donna/ Tegan/ Lucie Miller interactions would've been interesting to hear).

I thought the same thing while working on this, b/c we've had (in various media) Cybermen, an Ice Warrior, a Silurian, a Sontaran, and even the Master himself. Β We kinda sorta had it with Oswin in "Asylum of the Daleks", but that was a one-off.
Who knows, maybe one day we'll see "Rusty" again.

PaulHanley In reply to Lilac-Vrt-Olligoci [2014-10-27 16:19:23 +0000 UTC]
This was pretty much my Summer side project (which extended into Fall). Β I drew one or two companions every morning as a warm-up sketch (I drew them all separately and layered them together in Photoshop- I've posted all the individual versions on my Tumblr feed). It was a commission, thank god.
