Description This was a fun one- my shot at a "definitive" Troughton console room, combining as many weird and unique non-Hartnell elements as I could from the many, many versions that appeared on TV. Β

Love this variation of the console room. Wish it was seen in its entirety in the show

I see that you remembered the flute, now it's defiantly Troughton's TARDIS.

Complete with at least one silly hat, and Two's recorder. Bravo!

I know it's not practical anymore, because the sets are so much more intricate, but I'd love to see the console room change from story to story again. We've been told (and shown) over and over that the TARDIS is a living being, and that she reacts to the Doctor - what he's doing, what he's thinking about, what he needs - and to a lesser degree to the companions, and I think it'd be wonderful to see that so visibly.

It could be done, now that I'm thinking about it...a console room with lots of doors leading off it, and every time the Doctor opens one, it leads to a different space. (I'm already imagining Thirteen in a one-sided argument with the TARDIS about what she needs, slamming the door emphatically in between attempts.) That'd be pretty basic green-screening, right?

Anyway, this is a beautiful and very well-researched design for Two's console room, and it should be the authoritative version going forward!

An interesting reminder that the Doctor's console room has "regenerated" numerous times prior to the 1996 movie - albeit a little more subtly.Β

Yep!Β  The interior used to change almost constantly story to story (except possibly Season 10)- I'm sure b/c it wasn't a standing set in those days.Β  The main console room doesn't really settle down till around the first Graham Williams season. Β

What's interesting is how all the weird idiosyncrasies of Troughton's were driven by story needs.Β  They needed the psychic headset and scanner wall in Wheel in Space... so it's there.Β  They needed Jamie and Zoe to be lured away one-by-one in The Mind Robber... so suddenly we have the corridor that goes back to the power room.Β  The chest (which also was always changing) was there to contain the fur coat, a Tibetan bell, Zoe, etc...Β
