Hi Pauline,
I came across this fantastic image a while ago and would love to commission you - if you're up for it.
I'm not very familiar with deviant art, so maybe you can give me an email address where I could contact you?

Cheers, Cori

Is this okay if I use in a school project? It's for a cover I am designing and my teacher would like proof that it legal to use. It's not-for-proft, the book is for showcasing short stories and poems written by students.

What settings in Apophysis did you use to get this effect? I really like the way this looks and I've been trying to recreate something smilar to this but can't quite figure it out. Do you think you could give any tips on how to make this or even the parameters? Thank you!

I think your imaginary spike coral is well on the way to an excellent texture!

I have just uploaded the fuller version of the fractal which is basically in its raw state apart from having been desaturated in photoshop. After this stage I played around with a color overlay and blend modes in photoshop until I was happy with it.

The fractal flame was just two transforms in Apophysis. Both transform 1 and transform 2 had the variations FLATTEN and FOCI set to 1. All other variations were set at 0. Each transform weight was 0.5, color speed was 0, and all xaos weights were left at 1. Without delving into my flame archives I can tell you that I set the starting values as follows:

Transform 1:
Triangle: X=2.0, -1.75; Y=2.5 -4.5; O=0.75, -3.5
Transform: X=1.0, 1.75; Y=1.75, -1.0; O=0.75, -3.5

Transform 2:
Triangle: X=0.5, -2.5; Y=0.25, -1.0; 0=-0.5, -1.75
Transform: X=0.75, -0.75; Y=0.5, 0.5; O=-0.5, -1.75

Then I played around with the triangles until I found something I liked. Swanlake and Vegetable Patch were both spin-offs of the original Ramrock which was inverted in photoshop to give the mono texture I just uploaded. Sometimes I find the mutation window helpful but I have spent hours experimenting in Apophysis. It is like panning for gold - sometimes you will be well rewarded, but other times you will probably feel frustrated and wonder why you bother!

I consider myself still to be a beginner with some experience. The only other thing I can say is experiment with the color gradients and read the Apophysis tutorial for tips on this and using the mutation tool. Good luck!

Thank you so much! This was very helpful and I think I'm getting a better understanding of how Apophysis works. I've just started working with this program and really like how original and different it is, even though I have absolutely no idea what I'm doing but usually turns out cool. I will definitely keep playing around with it until I get something that looks as awesome as yours or close to my first rock-ish texture. Thanks again!

How did you make this? With dye or with a ball-point pen? Something like that?

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

PaulineMoss In reply to daywatchman [2012-09-01 06:52:04 +0000 UTC]

It was generated using Apophysis Fractal Generator which you can download from DA free of charge. The fractal came from another Apophysis fractal "RamRock" which I created and is also on DA. Blue Ink Paper was rendered and inverted in photoshop where it was also slightly modified. Apophysis can do in minutes what it would take an artist months to do! The tricky part is understanding how it works, and I still have a great deal to learn to put it mildly! Thanks for your question!
