Thanks for your comments on my gallery. I know it's a month after the fact, but I've been M.I.A. .
Rendering eyes competently is going to always be one of the most challenging part of human anatomy due to their depth and deep sense of expression. I can't really sum it up in less than a thousand words. I'll say this, though; Don't jump right into detail. Focus more on shape, placement, and perspective. Eyes can be more of a suggestive occurance rather than a hard line or simple "black and white" object. ..Meaning, you'll find that as in all things realistically rendered have more suggested contrast rather than hard lines.
Think of the parts that make up the eye.. the facial bones that surround it, and the lay of the delicate skin across these parts. Sometimes you have to break thigs down to even basic shapes in order to understand their relationship with connecting parts or even its interaction with light.
There's a great set of books by artist Jack Hamm. I've had a couple since I was a child. His explainations are easy to understand and well illustrated.
.. My best peice of advice is, (i'm sure you've been told this a billion times) practice, practice, and....... yes, practice. Don't get discouraged. We all get frustrated from time to time.
