Seeing news about the upcoming "Tiny Toon Looniversity" series gave me momentum to do a little extra effort, and finish making this game I had started around the beginning of this year (shortly after the release of GB Studio 3).

-Synopsis:

Buster and Babs celebrate that they are using "GB Studio 3" for creating their videogames, thus being able to display bigger and nicer sprites.
So, to Buster's surprise, Babs decides to inflate herself as a huge balloon to give us an example of how big the sprites can actually be now.

Meanwhile, some rats from Perfecto Prep show up and say "What is a videogame without some obstacles? Take some of these Babs, HAHAHAHAHAHA!!" and throw some spikeballs into the air close to her.

Help Babs dodge those spikeballs and give these rodents a lesson!

-How to play, in a nutshell:

Move a floating ballooned Babs around the screen with the arrow keys, avoid the obstacles, and get the carrots. Game has 8 levels and a short ending

-Note about Babs' sprite size during gameplay

I used a little trick to be able to make the inflated Babs sprite a little bigger. That is having the background color the same as Babs' blouse (which covers most of her inflated body). This way there are a lot of empty tiles inside of her, allowing me to make her bigger. The disadvantage of being the same color as the background, is that she might kind of look like a transparent bubble (this is also more apparent when touching certain objects). But I think the effect is still pretty neat.

The Game Boy (and Color) allows for 10 sprites, that also are 8 pixel wide tiles, in the same horizontal line (if you try to use more, these sprite tiles are not displayed, that when many 8-bit games use flickering). This is two more than the NES (which allows 8 sprite tiles in the same horizontal line). I had all of this in mind when designing the sprite, to make it as big as possible while leaving a little bit of sprites left for the obstacles. So from what I remember Babs' sprite uses a max or 7 or 8 sprites in the same horizontal line (plus the empty tiles that don't add up to this count but help make it look bigger), and the remaining 2 or 3 sprites are used by the two spikeballs and carrot.

This is also why the carrot and spikeballs are so small. They are 8 pixel wides each (one sprite tile each). It's because all the other resources are eaten up by Babs' blimp-sized sprite!

-Title screen artwork

As a base for creating this title screen image, I used a currently not available drawing made by . So special thanks to him

You can download this game to your computer as well (alongside other Babs Bunny games I made). Useful in case you want to play offline, or put it to a flash cart and play on an actual gameboy:
