Description
Though they be hard to see in spite of city lights,
Dark clouds, or merely an averted eye,
Still those embers glow far above in endless night,
An ageless promise from the sky,
Blessing from long before our birth,
Yet by ages younger still,
Celestial sentinels of the earth,
Spurring on manβs endless will,
Be they placed each one by a divine hand,
Or merely a product of infinite chance,
They glow, still issuing undeniable command,
Calling us to our place in the great expanse,
Reminding us we are less than we are meant to be,
Just as they are so much more than a distant gleam,
That even now while we are still stranded at sea,
They call us to wake from this horrid dream,
like the Mariners of old,
give naught this storm into fright,
So, it might be proudly told,
That we set our course by starlight.
So I was out taking the trash cans to the curb, when I noticed that I could just make out the stars thru the light pollution from the city, which inspired in me a strange kind of, I'll call it a muse at the risk of sounding more than a bit pretentious... So I wrote this, wish it conveyed a bit more of my original intention, but I think the overall massage is positive if a bit crudely conveyed.
