That's cool. The predecessor to the Defiant class, perhaps.

OMG, Amazing!Β Makes sense that a design or configuration like the much later DEFIANT-class of the 2370's, but set in the TOS era would at least be a prototype at some point.Β In TOS we had part of the canon being the ENTERPRISE was one of only 12 ships of her class (Constitution class).Β While believed to be the latest design in Starfleet and a capitol ship, the Connies could not be the ONLY classes of ships in use.Β Many older ships as well as many newer designs, even if only one-off prototypes, must have been around then.Β This is just AWESOME!Β What I love about this design is that is sheds much of the "bulk" of a Connie of that era.Β I am guessing this would be an "Armed Escort / Fast Destroyer" much like the later DEFIANT-class.Β Her smaller size would make the ship harder to get a target lock on, especially with her speed and agility, while she slipped in, attacked enemy vessels and then swooped out with maybe only a small scratch on the hull.Β Β

Wow you really read into this. I just wanted a ship that was bad ass and cool as heck to look at. Oh, and something no one elseΒ had.

Some of the old RP games from back in the 80s, 90s and into the early 2000's had miniatures and handbooks for playing table-top games.Β I never really got into playing the games BUT the handbooks were a good source of reference for the backgrounds of ships and some classic characters.Β You needed to understand though that other books contradicted each other.Β One old book from about 1983 or 1984 listed the ENTERPRISE 1701 refit as having a 'crew' of only 12 people.Β THAT seems like a big mistake in your face.Β We KNOW the ship had like hundreds of crew members.Β So, they could or could not be accurate.Β I once read that the DEFIANT from DS9 had a total crew of about 80 persons maximum, which was funny because at the time in the same book they said that the ENTERPRISE NX-01 also had a crew of about 80 persons maximum.Β So, we COULD have an educated guess that the DEFIANT from DS9 was about the same size as the old NX-01.Β This seems like its not that far fetched. Other books' statistics seem way out there.Β It all depends on what you use as a source reference for information.Β The 1701-D (Galaxy class) was listed as having a max crew of exactly 1,012 persons, not including any guests the ship may have to transport in an emergency like a planetary evacuation.Β It said the 1701-D could hold up to about 300 refugees in an evacuation situation.Β This was listed as keeping the people in cargo bays that have been repurposed for keeping the people comfortable during the trip.Β By comparison, the 1701-E (Sovereign class) had a max crew of only 875 estimated.Β So, although the 1701-E was larger over all she required less personnel to operate at standard function.
