People might find it easier to cut out (with lassoo), then cut and paste onto a whole new transparent layer, this makes it easier to work the mane and tail without messing with the background.

I work with the horse on a totally seperate file save before I put it onto the background last thing.

Also I use seperate layers for the horse, mane, tail and any other details.

thought those tips might help

umm, I use layers too? The horse IS above the background layer actually. I never would merge them before I'm done. I'm not trying to be rude, but I am QUITE aware of layers considering the fact that I've been making graphics for many years. And it makes more sense to put the horse on a layer above the background because then you know where your light source and things are coming from. Working on a separate file entirely will result in a not-as-real look in the end.

Wow, still managed to be rude though. Why the heck do I bother offering help. Everyone does stuff differently I was merely saying how I do mine.
