Peachfuzz — Braids of Friendship

Description The last gift I did over my break, made for the wonderful ~Psamophis ! It includes her character, Malcata, braiding Shirinara's hair. D'aww.

Now, anybody familiar with Shirinara's reclusive, antisocial nature is surely thinking, "Wait, I thought she hated everyone? " And normally, she does. But if anyone can gain her trust, it's the kindly, gentle Malcata. Just don't expect Shirinara to be buddying up to anyone else any time soon.

This scanned nicely. Anything that looks crappy in the scan also looks crappy in the real thing, so I can't complain. This was my first attempt at pine bark, and we can all see how well that turned out. Looks like a dead graboid. (if you understand this reference without Wiki-ing, congrats!) My other complaints about this one include the fact that the rock Malcata's sitting on practically turned blue, because that's what Cool Grays do next to yellow and brown. I should have known better.

Enjoy, ~Psamophis ! This is that idea I was telling you about.

Thanks.

I wrote in my description that my pine bark looks like a dead graboid, so that must be it. I'm guessing you're a Tremors fan, too?

indeed I am
Got the entire film and TV series on DvD

I'm also a fan of good, clean; non-perverted anthro art like your's

I have all four of the movies on DVD, but I've only seen a few of the episodes. I really like the ones I've seen... Thank goodness Michael Gross stuck with the series. I should grab those on Amazon some time.

And thanks!

yep!
You can also find some episodes on YouTube or hulu

I myself have a fursona (but lack artistic ability to draw it, I can only draw dinosaurs); so I tend to look around for anthro art. That's how I noticed this amoug the tremors art

Very nice work

The bark looks good to me I couldn't have done it better myself x3 I'm impressed that you actually take time to try to learn to put such details as different kinds of bark in you pictures :3
Both Malcata and Shirinara look great expressions, clothes, colors and hair... very pretty

i've been meening to comment on this one for a long time. the image just makes me happy, the composition is wonderfull, especially the strategically placed colors with the red bark and yellow grass really complimenting the main figures. also, love seeing images where you have two characters interacting.

you're a Tremors fan, too? :'D *is a total Tremors geek*

aaaanyways... it's Shirinara! ah, i love it when you draw her, she has to be my favorite character of yours ^o^ she's got a really adorable expression, and i see you kept the ribbons. it's really hard to draw two or more characters interacting like that, but you did so good =] and believe me, that tree does not look like a dead graboid. it's a little big like one, but other than that it looks like a really nice tree =o

Tremmies unite!

Nice to hear that someone likes Shirinara for once. Usually everyone's ignoring her for Normoon or Chaka. Shirinara is my oldest character conceptually, I'll always love her.

Thanks so much for the awesome comment! The ribbons just make more sense for her than the bra thing I had before, since she wouldn't logically have something like that or know how to make one. But she can steal ribbons!

yesss!

well, Shirinara's my type of character. =] i don't know what it is about those forest-y kind of characters, i just love them so much.

well, maybe she stole a bra but yeah, i like the ribbons a lot, and it's a good thing they make sense, too. |D

And I have plans with friends to watch Tremors 4 at some point this term hehehehehee.

I LOVE IT!!!!!

Really...you draw such cute Malcatas ^^ I haven't made her looking cute since a looong time. And this drawing made me like even more the relationship between Malcata and Shirinara. This is so... *awwww*.
One of the things I like most is that you pictured Malcata so well...I mean, she is all sweet and nice, and she definitely would be interacting with Shirinara the way you made it I like Shirinara's expression, because she looks really happy. And the braids look cool on her

Once again, the bright vivid colours you use on your pics give so much life to it The rock doesn't look blue to me o_o It seems fine...and the pine...ain't a dead graboid to me (I had to see what a graboid was ).

I admire your work with marker...I still don't know how to use them. As you might remember, I have one lonely pink copic at home That soon will be fixed...found a way to get my hands on them.

Once again, thank you thank you and thank you for this wonderful giftie It made me want to draw these two together

Peachfuzz In reply to Psamophis [2008-01-18 00:27:44 +0000 UTC]

It was my pleasure. Besides, you started it!

I imagine Shirinara would be constantly tugging on Malcata's braids, trying to figure them out. I guess Malcata finally gave her some braids of her own to tug on!

I'm excited at the thought of marker artwork from you. I've never tried Copics, but I know they make beautiful artwork in the right hands.

Psamophis In reply to Peachfuzz [2008-01-18 00:38:07 +0000 UTC]

hehe...Shirinara is cute...Malcata is cute, so they should get along well...

I must do a small comic of Malcata and Shirinara together...must start working on some ideas.
I hope the copics don't take long to arrive I would love to try them out! My pink one has been used a lot, in really pathetic things. But I liked the results.

They do make a cute pair, don't they? It's kind of relieving finally having a friend for my shy, reclusive Shirinara.

I hope your Copics come quickly!

knight-owl [2008-01-15 23:18:15 +0000 UTC]

This one's super cute! I love Shirinara's expression, and her body language looks awesome too! Nice work on the pine bark so far, it's looking good and piney, and the missing hunk of bark was a nice touch. For next time I think you should maybe consider how the little twig thingies (technical terms I swear. You'd never know that I help my sister at her plant nursery, I sure don't pick up any of the language xD ) that come out of the trunk effect the bark. They look a little like they're super glued onto the tree instead of growing out of it It's rediculously impossible for me to find a picture that shows what I'm talking about half decently, these two slightly show it with some imagination [link] [link]
Where the twigs come out the bark tends to form its joint there, and it tends to lift a bit and kind of go roundish around the stem... I'm terrible at explaining things, no wonder I don't critique Did that make any sense to you?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

knight-owl In reply to knight-owl [2008-01-15 23:27:04 +0000 UTC]

It's a pretty minor nitpicky thing anyways, I just figured that I said I'd try to critique and you're working on tree bark etc, so I'd mention it. And now my fear of critiquing is kicking in even though you already said you liked critique, so I'm here justifying and back-peddling and rambling... eek!

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Peachfuzz In reply to knight-owl [2008-01-16 00:59:37 +0000 UTC]

Oh, come now. I said that people don't need to be intimidated about giving me critique when something looks bad to them, and I meant it. Besides, this is a real beauty of a critique! Problem identified, reasons given, examples and suggestions for improvement provided. What more can ya ask for?

Thanks so much for the helpful input and the great links! I really needed that. Truth be told, I had no friggin' idea how to do the bark where the twiggies come out. They do look like they're glued on there, now that you mention it!

Like I said, thanks a ton. I'll definitely be working to improve that next time I draw any sort of twiggies coming out of bark.

knight-owl In reply to Peachfuzz [2008-01-16 01:06:19 +0000 UTC]

Yeah, I panicked a little after I posted the comment I'm really glad it helped though! Next time I critique I'll attempt to do so less neurotically

Cervidian94 [2008-01-13 21:11:06 +0000 UTC]

The bark on the fallen log looks good to me and it reminds me of that of a ponderosa pine. As far as the rocks are concerned, I would not be overly concerned about their color. When you observe rocks in the real natural world, you'll notice that many are not plain gray in color. Rocks come in a very wide range of colors and textures. What's more important, is giving some structure to the rocks.

I do not see anything negative that pops out at me in this. I like the highlights in the hair in particular in this picture for some reason.

Would you happen to be a fellow Tremors fan, then?

Thanks, Eclipsis. I ran into a bit of confusion with the hair highlights because there are two characters, and I didn't know whether their highlights should vary with their hair colors or be the same from the inform light source.

Sweet! Most people I mention it to are like, "Wuh? Sounds dumb. " The fourth one is... Interesting. I liked it because it covered some unexplained info from the other three, and because it established the Gummer peculiarities. >D Funny as heck.

Eclipsis In reply to Peachfuzz [2008-01-13 22:51:32 +0000 UTC]

Gummer? I do not remember what that is.

So the fourth is just funny? Hmm... I might not like it then.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Peachfuzz In reply to Eclipsis [2008-01-13 22:58:24 +0000 UTC]

Bert Gummer, the crazy gun guy from the first three. His great-grandpa or grandpa or whatever is in the fourth movie (it's a prequel), played by the same actor who plays Bert in the other three, Michael Gross. I personally like the Tremors franchise more for the funny since the graboids and other monsters don't actually scare me, so I say the fourth is funny. But people still get eaten and they still have to save the town from the monsters and all, as usual.

Normally I hate prequels but they did a good job on this one, in my opinion.

I acutally like how the rocks turned blue xD; I think things in nature look nice as a color..color than as a neutral color. All the rocks look really nice, I think, although they seem a bit simplistic for the picture? It might be that the grass is so nicely shaded (pretty colors <3) so the rocks look a little..boring-er? Maybe some more cracks or something would help make them fit in better? Rocks are a pain to draw, but you seem to be pretty good at making them look like -rocks- opposed to some of us around here *cough* Lovely job on the tree, it looks pretty pwnsome
