Description Last night, I said to myself, "I have a chemistry test tomorrow that I need to study for." Three hours later I was done with this painting. So much for studying!

Despite countless errors and needed improvements, I'm rather happy with this. I haven't used watercolors in forever and I was never any good at them, really. So this is pretty good considering!

It was hard for me but I went for a loose, thin linework on the scenery rather than my usual refined, thickly-outlined cartoon work. That worked, but I think the backdrop itself is actually kinda bad because I unintentionally formed the composition out of ugly, unnatural even spaces between various components.

Magby's red body suffered in the scan (it's actually a colder red with better shading), but this scan overall looks quite good. :3

Maybe I should paint more often? XD

Sakura Pigma Micron size 01 and 02, Yarka Student pan watercolors, 4"x6" Canson Montval watercolor paper.

I think the watercolor open your new painting world, and you are good with using both watercolor and markers. I like the depth of the color and it make out the perspective of the autumn forest. and I feel the texture of the paper is different from your usual paper.

Thanks so much! I'm really glad you like it! I was surprised at how well this painting came out.

You're right, this paper has a strange texture compared to my usual paper.

Definitely paint more often! You handled your watercolors with strength and color, and I love the loose wet in wet colors in the upper foliage. The separate leaves are elegant and beautifully shaded. Your critter's shading is good too even with the scanning. Watercolor takes practice, but you're really getting it!

I think, it's a great approach! I really do like the tree in the foreground. The colors look nice, and the texture of the bark looks great as well.^^

Lovely work again!

Thanks for taking the time to comment. Watercolor is so weird and new to me.

I'll definitely have to experiment more with linework.

Love the colors you chose. And I praise your watercolor abilities! I haven't painted in watercolors in 2 years. I have a feeling if I tried now it'll be really bad. >_O

With that said, best of luck on that test. lol

Wow, thanks. I love the colors this time of year.

I already took the test, and I think I might have screwed up the scientific notation. >_<

Peachfuzz In reply to ShadowMehMeh [2008-10-21 00:49:49 +0000 UTC]

I got that test back, and I actually did the scientific notation perfectly (surprisingly). It was the darned significant figures that got me!

YES paint more often!
Of course I am a sick water color fan and absolutely love seeing Pokemon paintings. (I'm working on two at the moment actually)

But really this looks very nice, Peach! The colors look pretty nice even for scanner damage. I especially love the cool colors in the distance. That magby is just precious <33

Peachfuzz In reply to amaguard [2008-10-11 02:23:15 +0000 UTC]

Aw, thank you! I always love reading your comments.

I did a lot of color mixing for the background parts. There's orange, red, and brown in there with the purple. I hope to paint again soon, but you know how classes get.

Thanks so much, Foxxeh. ^__^ I surprised myself with this piece because usually I'm hopelessly bad with watercolor.

Foxxeh In reply to Peachfuzz [2008-10-11 11:47:08 +0000 UTC]

I'm always bad with them when I was told by the teacher to use more water >.< The page would warp! And I could never get the colors to blend well.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Peachfuzz In reply to Foxxeh [2008-10-11 16:20:37 +0000 UTC]

I used my cool Canson Montval Watercolor Block. It's great for preventing warping without having to tape, soak, or stretch the paper. I mean, it warped a bit but not nearly as much as a free paper would have.

And I know what you mean about blending colors. >>; Need to practice more...

Foxxeh In reply to Peachfuzz [2008-10-11 21:21:06 +0000 UTC]

Beautiful! I love the rich warm colors The firey reds of those autumn leaves go very well with the cute little fire type out for a stroll. (Prolly isn't wise for a magby to be left unattended in a pile of dead leaves, eh? LOL)

Great job, Peach!
