Description A present for Nekomarunosuke of his character, Sania . I hope you like it!

I was inspired by this piece (watercolor version: nekomarunosuke.deviantart.com/… ). I also really like his ginkgo drawing , and I wanted to try drawing these strange trees, too. I tried a lot of weird new stuff in this piece and not all of it worked, but overall I'm glad I did this and I like how it turned out (in person at least; The scan's not the best). I learned a lot.

Made with Prismacolor pens and Prismacolor markers.

Great job, I specially like how you managed to blend the colors with its varied shades so well together, the smooth ink lines along with the coloring gave to this a very nice fantasy feeling, and the lovely character only helps to make this even more enjoyable. Congratulations!

This is one of my favourites of your works. I like how you managed to create a sense of depth by choosing which structures to make bold and outline, and which to leave more gentle in appearance such as the clouds, purple flowers and even further in the background the same purple flowers that appear light yellow because there are more sunrays between the viewer and the flowers. A phenomenon seen here: wallpaperswide.com/field_of_co…
I do not as of yet have much experience with this style of drawing and medium used, but I think it would be interesting to see more interaction either between two or more different characters, or the environment and the character as you already did in Autumn Glade (character holding a tree branch). I also like how the drawing is full of everything which makes it curious, but not overwhelming. Keep up the good work!

Thank you for the amazing comment! I have been reading it over and over every day, savoring it. <3 I have been putting a lot of thought and effort into which elements to emphasize or downplay in my art, and how to do that, so it makes me very happy that you noticed.

Again, thank you, and have a great weekend!

That shading is so sexy for some reason. Just THAT good. D: That red is just amazing and deep.

I like this all around but the fabrics are pretty good. Lots of great things going on here. =3

Thanks so much for faving and commenting! In person the purple that I used to shade the red fabric shows better, making the color there a lot more rich. For some reason that's the only purple that the scanner missed. Overall, I tried something new with the shading here (both color-wise and inking-wise), but I need to develop it more.

And thank you for the comment about the fabric! I'm not very good at fabric so that makes me especially happy.

Does your scanner do any auto editing to scans when you bring them in? I noticed mine does that sometimes. Sometimes for the better, sometimes for worse. You might check that again if it does.

=3

Peachfuzz In reply to FuzzyAcornIndustries [2012-11-06 00:27:51 +0000 UTC]

The scanner's set to minimize artifacts automatically, but nothing else. I always check those settings before scanning to make sure.

FuzzyAcornIndustries In reply to Peachfuzz [2012-11-06 00:52:32 +0000 UTC]

Ah, ok. But I have learned that sometimes that auto setting DOES help. It did that with Undaunted. So I might still suggest checking either way.

I started doing something a little differently with the cross-hatching on this piece. I need to refine this approach with more practice, but I think it has a lot of promise. I'm looking for something that hearkens more to centuries-old etchings than... Burlap.

Oh she is Sania so far I see her through through my drawings or imaginations. now I encounter awesome Sania in your art style. on recent days I check your WIP shots and then I can't stop my excited mind. now my heart is full of delight thank you very much for drawing this art

and I'm really glad to hear my old arts inspire you. I draw and paint them in 2008, then I never think and expect these art remain on other people's head. In this moment, I think it's good to keep on drawing and painting arts.

I love the costume in particular the red color and the wrinkles on hat and skirt. and the pose is awesome, flying on the broom! I love the angle on the face. her expression is brilliant. and the ginkgo leaves, I haven't expected you draw it in this time. combining Sania and sun and the ginkgo trees make a good autumn color.

and on the background, you make a good dot effects I've seen you use it on this art[Link]. but the effect is so enhanced and it's really soft, I really love this sky.

Thank you Thank you very much this art really make me happy

I am so glad you like it! Thank you so much for the detailed comment and the fav.

I only see a red sun when there is a big fire. A lot of smoke makes the sky yellow and the sun red, so it's not a good thing to me in real life. I hope in Sania's world, a red sun is not due to a dangerous fire. It was difficult trying to figure out how to color her white fur with those bright colors in the sky. I think a cat witch with light fur is a creative idea.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Nekomarunosuke In reply to Peachfuzz [2012-10-13 13:33:24 +0000 UTC]

In my country, people think the color of sun is red, so I draw and paint the red sun. I've heard the color of the sun depend on the country and the culture, I've heard the sun have yellow, orange, white or red, there will be existed the different color of sun in the world. so when I see the red sun on this art, I feel familiar with the sun. when I see the colored sun on WIP shot, I want to know why you use the red on the sun but it's described and I don't mention it.
I think it's interesting to try the different color on the objects, and I'll be happy when the art become better. on this art, I think the yellow is effectively used and yellow sky is wonderful. I love your color choice.

I think the yellow work effectively on Sania's fur and the purple, it emphasize her white fur and it's outstanding in the sky.
I start to draw Sania a few later than Nemu. when I draw Nemu and then I want to know Nemu's friends or rivals, soon Sania appears, I love both cat withes

Peachfuzz In reply to Nekomarunosuke [2012-10-13 20:14:01 +0000 UTC]

Nemu and Sania are a cute pair of characters. I considered drawing Nemu instead, but I chose Sania because I really wanted to try drawing the red sun like you did. Also, I dislike the color blue, so that made Nemu less attractive for me to color.

The sun's color is really interesting. As a culture, yellow seems to be the USA's standard color for the sun and it's sometimes confusing if graphics and artworks make it another color. A long, long time ago I started to love drawing yellow skies in my art, so usually I do not draw the sun or I make it more white-ish. Blue is a common color for the sky, but I don't like blue and I avoid it a lot. Overall, yellow is my favorite color to use in my art. It's weird how the artist's personal preferences and culture can affect the color palette of their art.

Nekomarunosuke In reply to Peachfuzz [2012-10-14 10:54:56 +0000 UTC]

My favorite color is purple, so I always enjoy coloring Kuraresu. I also feel the liking of the color concern to the frequency of the character. the another my favorite color is deep blue, the deeper blue is the better. Nemu have my favorite color.

however I don't like drawing the sky, it's from the different reason. I start to use the colored pencil, and I notice how the light blue is difficult to blend and use with my color style. currently the notion isn't changed and I often use other colorful effect on the background. the white is one of the most difficult color before, so in that time I can't figure out how to color Sania and then I usually want to avoid to color her. when I draw Nemu, the inner voice say you just forget Sania!! so I draw Sania as frequent as Nemu and now I could manage to use white, I thank to cute pair of characters.

I've noticed you use the different color on sky blurry. I often think you make a good color choice on the background and sometimes use the resemble colors on character and background and you manage to color them well. on my arts, I often try to use different type of color not to make the character vague. now I see your old arts and I notice clearly your sky have various color, the yellow and other colors are effectively elected on the sky.
this thing means I accept the sky with different color without being aware, and I see the whole mood of the arts.

Peachfuzz In reply to Nekomarunosuke [2012-10-15 21:06:27 +0000 UTC]

I always try to use some of the background/sky colors on the character so they look like they are really in the scene. Especially for shading and highlighting. But I also like to make sure the character has unique colors that are not in the scenery, so they don't sink in too much. I do both.

In this piece, Sania's fur has the same pale purple and light orange as the clouds, and a lighter version of the sky's yellow so that she belongs with the scene. But the white is unique and helps her fur to stick out at the same time. I used the same approach on her clothing: The purple, light yellow, light orange, and some of the orange-red is from the scenery, but the darkest red and brightest yellow are unique. The scan doesn't show it perfectly, but this technique for choosing colors works well.

Nekomarunosuke In reply to Peachfuzz [2012-10-16 13:50:17 +0000 UTC]

when I see your arts with the background, the character and the background reach to me in the same time, I've been vaguely aware of it. now I notice it's from your enhanced color sense. before I see your arts without background, I notice the different atmosphere from other full arts, your background art is as important as character art and it's indispensable. I think the colors are amazing, the slight change make big change, and it's worth to seek the better color, I'll draw more and more arts and I'm looking forward to seeing your arts.

by the way, on your arts of Shirinara, I always think her accessories have good color, now I notice it contrast with the sky blue.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Peachfuzz In reply to Nekomarunosuke [2012-10-21 02:31:52 +0000 UTC]

Wow, thanks!

On my most recent Shirinara artwork, "Autumn Glade ," I used a little of the sky's blue on her accessories, but mostly unique blues. If you only worry about expressing the local color (the base color of an item or area), then the coloration of the entire artwork ends up more flat and lifeless. I spend a lot of time thinking about where to re-use colors for harmony, and where to put unique ones to focus attention.

Nekomarunosuke In reply to Peachfuzz [2012-10-21 14:40:23 +0000 UTC]

when I get more knowledge of coloring, I notice how the color harmony is important more. the outcome appear as the whole atmosphere of the arts. even though I don't notice any implying contrast of the colors, I notice the atmosphere of the arts.
