"...Gee, it's swell to finally meet her other friends..."

I really wouldn't consider myself a fan of Steven Universe, not really since sophomore year of high school. But when saw that the movie dropped I figured I'd give it a quick viewing. Over all the movie was exactly all that great BUT I did quite like the villains song and the villain herself, Spinel, overall. And 11 minutes in is when you start getting that good shit that people love AND OMG WAS IT JUST THE BEST! I was utterly in love with the fluid animation given to her during her song. She did intimidating in her own way, really showing that shes a threat. Spinel also has a very nice design so well suited for what her purpose was as a gem, and s just so dark with nice sharp edges... ugh I need more!
Anyway. This was a very quick drawing, thought i'd just push it out here before I head to bed~

I haven't seen it yet BUT it looks so cool. Great art!
Completely agree regarding the animations, I love the cartoony style you can use in animation and it's a blast to see them finally use it!

I am glad that I'm not the only one that liked it as well because the character reminded me of the character peacock from the video game Skullgirls. She had that old fashioned animation that Disney has left behind and also Warner Brothers as well. it seems like animation nowadays has truly forgotten the roots and how much work people put in just to see people happy. The fact that we are also getting a cuphead show I feel like this is a step in the right direction when it comes to animation because with this character is showing that we have not forgotten about shows like Tom and Jerry or Popeye the sailor Man or even Looney tunes. Cartoon Network truly outdone themselves this time.

CN really did, so glad they put that effort and time into crafting a visually striking sequence~ Its definitely something that a lot of animation, television wise, lacks the majority of the time. Its like those things, while yes being very time consuming and i'm sure is expensive, really do add so much to the work, and like you mentioned, Tom and Jerry as well as Popeye had such good and fluid animation they were one of my many inspirations to try and take up animation as a possible career choice as I grew.
While I'm not knowledgeable on CupHead thats very interesting that its getting its own show. Hopefully it does stick to its roots and that they don't attempt any short cuts! Like please, no more flash, give me some hand drawn!

Same here as I miss the days of hand-drawn artwork and I feel like they put that in this movie. You can see that they did a lot for the villain spinel when it came to the humor of old fashioned animation meeting the new generation of animation.
