Spite jerked awake. Next to him, Barba shifted in his sleep, muttering but never rousing. The desert air was cool and clear and hinted of a coming storm. Spite was careful not to wake Barba as he left the warmth of his side. He'd had an interesting dream that was slipping from his mind's grasp as the waking world claimed him more and more.
A flicker of light in the sky dragged Spite's gaze upwards. A shooting star? He watched the stars above flicker before another one charged, quickly, past... and then another, and another. Spite watched as the stars roared to life and fell, landing somewhere in the mountains or in the far desert. The thought of waking up Barba to watch with him crossed his mind before he remembered the dream with sudden clarity.
A place that glittered like the heavens, bright and shining. His hoof beats sounded like chimes as he walked between the giant crystal formations. Ahead of him, head raised towards the cosmos, was Aether. Spite stopped at a respectful distance from his Highlord and waited.
'Perhaps a war is coming,' Aether turned, his gaze was bright, intense, but not unkind.
'I will not know for certain until I scry the future. The stars will help us. Find them for me.'
Spite shifted, his hooves singing against the crystalline ground. A war? Stars? None of this made any sense to him. But he couldn't ignore a Highlord.
'I will.'
Spite shook the dream away again, and turned to face Barba. It would be easier to search for stars with an extra set of eyes.
