Description
i want to see my little boys (here they come)Here are some headshots of just a few of the new Douglas Cuddle Toys plush coming out this spring! The catalog can be viewed here if any collectors haven't seen it yet.
Kenzie (Long Haired Dashund) : Not sure if I will actually buy this girl, I do like the idea of a long haired doxie plush.
Ryker (Raccoon) : I'm loving this new D'Lux line, makes this trash panda a little more fancy!
Piper? What are you doing here, you're not new!! No, she's actually retiring this year. I drew her after watching the Pixar Spark ShortKitbull . Gonna go out on a limb and say you have probably seen it, but if you haven't check it out! Her backstory involves dog fighting, leaving her cynical and bitter, but a natural born leader. And later in life she meets Klaus.
Klaus (Belgian Malinois) : Not sure if I will be adding this pup to my family, but I did make a backstory for him. He yearns to be part of a police K-9 unit, but lacks a drive to hurt anyone. He is motivated by love to do right by his community, and after being unable to bite and hold on command, he is rejected by the units. He can't be a police dog, and after training, he is too anxious and explosive to be put into a home, so he is set to be put down. He escapes his demise and meets up with a no-nonsense pitbull who tries hard to convince him that all humans deserve pain and suffering, as they put their kind and many other animals through the same. However, he is torn, he still wants to assist humans and be loved by them, but again is too nervous to get too close. Him and Piper stick hang out on the street, unsure of their future.
River (Great Pyrenees) : I am so so sooo excited for this guy! He may be the first baby I get, his fur looks so luxuriously soft!!! But a bit of a nitpick; he really doesn't look like a Great Pyrenees, more like an Old English Sheepdog mix. That bugs me a bit.
Taya (Chow Chow) : YAY another Chow! Totally adopting this gal too.
Brady (Goat) : A sassy lil' Goat! She's very cute ^^
Luka (Samoyed) : Sorry yall but this one looks reealll odd to me. The eyes, face.... I may skip this guy. Unless I see a really sweet one in a store. Maybe I'll be eating my words later this year? (I saw the instagram vid, he still looked dumb there). He's not the sharpest too in the shed, but man is he a sweet puppy! Always sporting that Samoyed smile! He's simple minded and a bit slow upstairs, but has a heart of gold.

Great art!
i agree with you on Luka. He looks more like a polar bear cub than a Samoyed o3o

Oh, how I have missed your creative twist on the Douglas animals!! Your illustrations just keep getting better and better and your description of everyone was a *lot* of fun to read! I read every word.
My thoughts:
Kenzie: Very cool that they've introduced a long-haired Dachshund to their line after all the other short-hair releases. That being said, I probably won't be getting this one. If she were the size/style of Gretel or even Spats, I'd snap her up in a heartbeat though!
Ryker: He doesn't have the typical Raccoon colors and markings but that's what I find so intriguing about him! Also, since he's part of the DLux line, he's likely going to be veeerry soft and squishy. I got to handle a couple of the DLux animals when I was in Keene back in November and they are amazingly floppy and made of wonderfully soft plush fur.
Piper: My poor girl, you left us too soon! D:
Klaus: I am insanely delighted that Douglas has given us such a cool and unusual breed! Like many, I wish he was in the 16" size but that's certainly not going to stop me from adding him to my collection!
River: Basically, what I said about Ryker, he's very floppy and soft as a cloud! Really, *really* nice materials were used for this dog. Unfortunately, as you already pointed out, he doesn't look all that much like a Pyrenees... :/ It's something of a "Year of the Sheepdog" at Douglas this year. We got Gunner the DLux Sheepdog, Jaxton the Fuzzle Sheepdog, Abrie the new 8" Sheepdog, aaaand River looks more like a Sheepdog than a Pyrenees. Yay.
Taya: Like Klaus, I am crazy excited for this one! I want her naoowww... Also, I do wish she was a little bigger, but hey! At least this Chow is bigger than Ivy and that's enough to make me happy!
Brady: I *really* love this goat and think I need to add one to my collection at some point! So much charm. That earring you added looks really nice too!
Luka: I've seen in-hand pictures of this dog that look *nothing* like the catalog photo. Honestly, I have no idea what happened with that. I for one will definitely be getting him!

AAAAHHH thank you so much this comment makes me soooooo happy!!
For some reason Kenzie just looks a tad off to me.
Oh gosh the way you talk about the DLux line... tell me more... I might even snatch up the DLux Corgi.
And River just sounds like a dream! In the instagram live video I saw him and knew he was gonna be a great snuggle buddy. He looks so soft and floppy.. him and Abrie look like they could be related. I'd love to see how she looks in hand! Good lord thats more sheepdogs than we need. At least they aren't all named "Willard" or "Gov'nor".
Yes, I feel like they did soo much work the the DLux line, they're like "alright, that's enough big plush to keep you happy. MAKE THE REST TINY."
I'm sure you're right about Luka. Who knows, maybe I'll be snuggling with one down the line. I'll probably be like "I'm sorry I doubted you lil' guy." Thank you again for your comment!! I love drawing my plush and I'm happy to be improving at bit.

I know what you mean about Kenzie looking a tad off. The first image I saw of her didn't have her name or breed listed so I thought she was an attempt at an *Afghan Hound*, in which case she would have been waaaay off. But at least as a long-haired Dachshund she only looks a little bit off.
Well, let me tell you about this DLux line then... Douglas really pulled out all the stops with the quality of the materials for these animals. The fur looks so detailed and complex in person, if I hadn't known that I was looking at a stuffed animal made with faux fur plush, I would have thought it had been crafted with real rabbit fur or something similar! The colors throughout the fur are very complex and arranged with dark and lights in places where they would be with real fur. There are some with dark roots, some have "guard hairs" with dark tips, and it's all so fine and soft. If you've ever pet a rabbit, that's really the closest thing I can compare it to. The large size and long shape of the DLux animals' bodies also lend really well to that realistic "flop" that makes a stuffed animal so lovable. The Niko I held in person was a prototype but he had beans in his paws and I do believe the actual production run pieces will also have beans in their paws which make them even moar floppy!! Thus far, Niko is the only DLux canine on my "for sure going to buy" list, but it's likely Konner Corgi and Oakley Golden Retriever will make their way into my collection at some point as well!
LOL, yes, you have made a very good point about the Sheepdogs! At least we don't have a slew more of them with those poor overused names!
Luka in hand looks like a fluffy little chubby bear cub. He's really very adorable. Also! From what I have been able to tell in pictures, it looks like the three sitting floppy pups that Luka is a part of have the lip/flew detail that Douglas used to do a lot of the time for their older dogs! I am so ridiculously psyched that they seem to be featuring that detail again!
I'm happy to comment! I will look forward to seeing more of your plush drawings!

*faints* oh my gosh it all sounds too good to be true! It sounds like Douglas really outdid themselves this year! I remember before I adopted my cat I would pet my plushies when I was anxious or just admire them. Now that I have a kitty(don't remember ever petting a rabbit, at least not in the last 10 years) that will snuggle and purr back I don't do that quite as much but I'm probably going to start doing that more with those soft materials! Yeah, even in the catalog I could see the fur details with the dark and light strands! They look and sound really REALLY wonderful!
Speaking of Golden Retrievers, I know I only pointed out Luka but I really like the new 12" floppy line too! I can't help but think of Amelia the border collie, I may find myself with Felix or Whittaker. I was just wondering if it was my imagination, I thought I saw a bit of flew detail too. I don't think I even own a Douglas with flew lip details! I know my Webkinz Signature Golden does, and I love it.
