crappy flash style just happens to be my specialty at the moment, so until I get a random knack for realism or something, flash stuff is all that's going to happen

You don't get a "random knack" for anything. You actually have to PRACTICE realism to get good at it, and thats exactly what I'm suggesting you do.

Actually, it is basically a "random knack"...I go through periodic cycles of which art style I can do the best (basically the one I am focusing the most on at a given point in time)...cartoony is most prominent, but sometimes it's sculpture, painting, or more detailed pencil work. Right now I'm in flash mode cuz it's the easiest to crank out finished products in short amounts of time. Realism on the other hand takes time, and since I do not have time, realism is not what I currently have a knack for...

Then this summer, when you DO have time, you should prove me and Shannon wrong about what we were saying and practice some good realism style art. ^_^

that is entirely subjective. Plus, comparing my art to a whole genre is pretty much impossible. I happen to think there are some very good artists in the anime/manga field. I've seen some excellent art, but the whole idea that they would use their talent on something so excruciatingly generic and mainstreamed as an anime face is an insult to their very own artistic potential and individuality. The physics on the hair and lame excuses for a nose are ridiculous.
How such an art style got so popular is beyond me and beyond my power to reverse. This seems more a question of artistic style then of artistic prowess since you are both unwilling to grant my current works any merit. Again, it's entirely subjective.

Hey, at least anime characters HAVE faces, not like the pitiful +'s you had on yours.
And most people just like it because of the story line. But its the story line with the expressions (which is the main point of manga) together that makes people like it. Plus, Japanese comic books have a different them than American ones, so its something new. Sorta.
And we wouldn't have been comparing it to anime if you hadn't brought anime up.

Your right, I've never animated anything. Because I don't have the knowledge of how to do it OR the software you need, so I pretty much can't...
But I know its not easy, I never said it was easy.
And we were not originally comparing it to anime. We were just talking about it, critiquing it (not nessecarily insulting at first), then you come up. Shannon just had to say we were talking about you (I do not at all understand why she had to tell you that, we were all prepared to drop it). You insult what we like, so we insult your art.
And we are not going to stop liking something just because some of the people who like it are ridiculous, or its too popular. Thats absolutely ridiculous.
And again, I had been prepared to drop that subject so many times, and you kept bringing it back up. As much as I know it shouldn't, someone insulting something I like upsets me almost as much as if someone insulted my own creations. Which is why I was so ready to drop it and forget you insulted it (cause its not like you are saying its just not your style, you are practically saying that anyone who likes it is an idiot). I didn't want to be mad at you. Unfortunatly, you brought it back up and made it worse at brunch. By then it was stuck. >< Not exactly how I was hoping my day would go. Probably not how you wanted yours to go either, having people insult your art (and for that I apologize), but I really do wish you had dropped it.

I didn't start insulting the people who liked it until after I got the first personal jabs at my work, which were totally unwarranted. It would have been more an understandable argument had you been attacking flash art and animation in general. Seeing as that was not the case, I had to bring it down around the same level (i.e. insulting the people who like anime). I don't expect anyone to stop liking anime, but I will continue to dislike it. I will not make jabs at anime fans as long as I don't hear anime start being compared to my creations. (I can tolerate jabs at obssessive flash animation fans, though...they can get pretty lame). I'm sorry for frequently verbally bashing something you like. I will with-hold negative anime comments in the future.

didn't think so. That was for simplicities sake because fyi, animation is not as easy as it looks. And please, try to insult more relavent stuff, like stuff I've done this week or this month...not a whole year ago...365 days makes a rather large difference. I'll take your word for it, but I still think the fandom is way over the top...
I wasn't the one who brought it up...I walked over and Shannon's like "we were talking about you" and then BAM, people start insulting my art and comparing it to their beloved anime. Then they call me rude...
