Description
Name: Stenson Jones
Species: Gargoyle, Male
Age: Late 20’s appearance, actual is about 200 years
Height: Human – 6’ 2”
Gargoyle – 7’ 3”
Weight: Human – 195lb (flesh)/450lbs (statue)
Gargoyle – 315lb (flesh)/950lbs (statue)
(Weight varies with stone skin ability, increases with use)
Appearance:
- In human form, which he prefers, Stenson looks like an average tall, lean young man in his late 20’s. The only difference is his greyish skin tone, reminiscent of his true species origin, pointed ears, larger pointed canines (upper and lower jaw), and eyes (dark sclera, fiery orange iris, and lighter white/grey colored pupils that have almost a cataract appearance and have a mirrored/reflective quality). His pupils are the same shade as his light-grey skin and seem to reflect light rather well, giving his eyes a nocturnal shimmer effect in direct light. Some have even assumed him to be blind upon first meeting him due to how his eyes look.
- In gargoyle form, he is much bigger, bulkier and muscular. His skin remains fleshy but is more durable than human skin (more like an elephant or rhino except smoother in texture). He is also a shade darker in color, eyes the same but perhaps a bit brighter, and his claws/spikes/inner flesh is an almost black color. He looks like a terrifying monster, despite being a pretty nice guy even as a gargoyle. His voice is a bit more gruff, deeper, and more grumbly, but still coherent and intelligible. His wings are somewhat of a cross between bat and feathered - feathered silhouette but solid versus individual feathered, more like a bat wing.
- Stenson bleeds reddiish-black blood if injured, and cannot stop bleeding until the wound is covered until treated with either caked or powdered granite. Losing a limb would be the worst injury for Stenson to endure, and could be life threatening. If he were to lose a limb, he must re-sculpt a new granite limb and reattach it, a painful and debilitating process. He has yet to lose any limbs, thankfully.
Facts:
- Stenson is a silver badge police officer working for the WDSA, special operations used mainly for specific missions or emergencies, and sometimes to accompany other WDSA agents in dangerous field work and studies.
- Stenson was sculpted from granite, and so the only material that can be used to heal him is granite.
- Taking gargoyle form is something that Stenson does not do lightly. The situation would have to be rather drastic or exceptionally dangerous for him to resort to his gargoyle form. The change is not instantaneous and is similar to a werewolf transformation, but smoother and painless.
- Normally gargoyles are not granted a human form. Stenson’s was a special gift to him from his father (see history).
Accessories:
- His police vehicle is the latest model Dodge Charger. It is a black unmarked police vehicle, and all lights are interior or hidden until turned on. Due to the supernatural dangers that go along with WDSA police work, the Charger has all the upgrades: Bulletproof glass and tires, heavy solid metal exterior, and reinforced containment cage in the back to withstand even the strongest, muscled supers while transporting them to HQ for processing if they are arrested.
- His weapons are a Glock 22, with ammo ranging from normal bullets to supernatural-specific ammo (UV bullets, silver bullets, holy water bullets, etc). Most of his various ammos are kept in the car, and pulled out for use in the appropriate situations. He also keeps a Remington 870 shotgun in his vehicle at all times, also equip with various ammo types.
- When in uniform, Stenson wears a utility belt and bullet proof vest at all times. His belt carries a variety of items such as pepper spray, baton, flashlight, ammo cartridges, radio, batteries, gloves, multi-tool, taser, pocket knife with glass breaker and seatbelt cutter, and handcuffs. There are also pockets on his vest that can hold some items as well, and nonconventional items would include other substances used in supernatural situations, normally only carried when details on a situation is known but otherwise stored in his vehicle.
- His handcuffs are not normal handcuffs. They are specially enchanted to handle multiple different types of prisoners, including normal humans to most common supernaturals who normally cannot be held by traditional handcuffs. Trying to melt, teleport, phase, shadow, or dissolve your way out of them? Good luck! Though not impossible for stronger supernaturals, it is still incredibly difficult.
History and Personality:
- Summary of his history:
Stenson’s father was a renowned Arcane Sculptor, who was more or less known by most secret organizations and cults, or powerful political figures, and often commissioned to create statues or gargoyles/guardians that were more than just a typical stone statues. Sculpted from the finest materials and imbued with a limited lifeforce that would otherwise keep the creature in a stone form until needed, his work was often used to protect buildings or places used by these organizations.
In his old age, the sculptor, whose name was, you guessed it, Stenson Jones, was commissioned to create two identical gargoyle statues to be used by an unknown occult organization. Upon completion of the first statue, old man Stenson fell ill with pneumonia and due to his age, succumbed to the illness rather quickly. Unable to finish the other statue, he considered his last wishes, and decided instead to imbue the finished statue with life. However, unlike his previous works, he wanted only for this being to live a free life instead of servitude. He considered the gargoyle his only real son, and gifted him the ability to take human form, speak English, and most common human knowledge so that he might be able to go into the world and live a life of his own. The unfinished gargoyle was never imbued with life, as it was only finished from the torso up and made simply of basic shapes and blocked-out forms.
The gargoyle stayed with his father for the next week or so of his remaining life, and once his father had passed, he adopted his father’s name as his own, and left with his unfinished “brother” and his father’s sculpting tools. For most of his first years, Stenson lived in secret off of his father’s remaining money until he decided to try out as a human police. This went well until he slipped up during a rather heated situation and was discovered as a gargoyle. However, instead of being rejected by his police force, his superior contacted the WDSA and had him transferred instead to the special police force of the Wathais Department of Supernatural Affairs as one final act of friendship, since Stenson had done so much for his old police team. Stenson was reinstated within the WDSA police, and underwent a few more months of special training before he was enlisted as an official WDSA police officer with Silver Badge ranking. Since then, Stenson has lived in the city of Wathais, in the quieter areas of Central Wathais, residing in a house located in the nicer urban living areas of the city. His garage serves as a workshop where he practices sculpting and keeps his brother safe, a reminder of his father and where he came from. The whereabouts of the unknown organization that originally commissioned for Stenson’s creation has since been forgotten and lost, but whether they are still searching for him remains unclear.
Personality –
Stenson is a rather humble and easy-going man to be around. He is lighthearted and fun to talk to, and enjoys hanging out with his work buddies on days off. Although, he can be rather quiet around those he does not know, but he is far from antisocial and will open up to a friendly conversation or meeting. His favorite hangouts are bar restaurants, parks (on shady or cloudy days), and sometimes doing something adventurous like hiking, paintball, mountain biking, and other activities.
When on the job, he is somewhat by-the-book in how he does things, but isn’t afraid to adapt to a situation when things get out of hand. He takes his job very seriously, and is naturally proficient at protection and guardianship. Gargoyles normally only protect areas or buildings, but Stenson has found that protecting people, both human and supernatural, is something that he greatly enjoys and takes pride in.
Stenson can be somewhat secretive when it comes to either his species, his true form, or his past. These things are private to him, and although some have seen his true form, he prefers to keep it hidden as more of a “last resort” measure for extreme or dangerous situations. Typically, he will do all he can in his human form before choosing to use his gargoyle form. As well, although his gargoyle form is his true natural form, he is normally quite clumsy due to the fact that he spends so much time in his human form and is not used to the size difference.
Romantically, Stenson has had a few courtships in his past, but since coming to Wathais, he has remained single. His job keeps him rather busy, and does not allow him much time or energy to flirt with the ladies. He can be a little shy around flirtatious women as well, but perhaps a charming, pretty girl could come along and change that in the future.
One major flaw he suffers from is hard-headedness. The man can be frustratingly stubborn sometimes, stuck in his old ways when he was on normal human police forces in the past, and normally that gets him into trouble especially on the job.
Strengths/Abilities:
- Stone Skin: With this ability, Stenson can form a half-inch layer of granite stone over his skin to protect against an incoming attack. It takes about 1 second for the stone to form (if that is relevant information to any future situation.)
- Flight capable: Yes! He has very large and very strong wings.
- Claws and Teeth are very strong. His hindleg duclaws would also be deadly in close combat, as they are ideal for hooking/grappling/climbing and overall delivering some pretty nasty kicks.
- His tail is rather stumpy, but is lined with small spikes and might hurt if swung at close range.
- In Gargoyle form, Stenson is incredibly tanky. His frame is extremely muscular, yielding powerful strength. In human form, he is far less strong, but he is still much stronger than an average human.
- As an officer, Stenson has received some helpful fighting techniques and physical training, giving him an upper hand against unskilled fighters and the ability to pin and subdue most opponents. He prefers this over causing any kind of major damage or injuries, and would much rather see a situation come to a peaceful (or at least incapacitated) conclusion. When dealing with known supers, he has also received extensive training on how best to handle most of them peacefully, as long as the other party is willing to cooperate.
Weaknesses/Flaws:
- Nearsighted: A flaw of his species, gargoyles tend to be nearsighted. Stenson’s is mild, and so he usually wears glasses while driving or when he’s out and about. If focusing on reading or something closer to him, he will lift or remove his glasses.
- Stone Skin Weight: When using Stone Skin, Stenson’s weight can increase with the additional stone, and can be hard to hold up if done for too long. (Imagine having a solid slab of granite attached to your body).
- Sunlight! Although it is not as dangerous to him as it would be to a vampire, direct sunlight can be a bit of a bother if endured for too long. Basically, Stenson will slowly revert into a statue if exposed for more than an hour or so. The changes are steady, starting with dry skin, stiffness, and discomfort, into full blown joint aches, difficulty moving, weight increase, and immobility. If he turns completely, he is stuck that way until moved or until nightfall, making him extremely vulnerable.
- Statue: Normally Stenson can turn into a statue by choice, usually to sleep. But if trapped, he is susceptible to damage or capture. He would have to be forcibly exposed to direct sunlight though.
- Water: Stenson has a paralyzing fear of deep water for the exact reason any stone-creature might fear water. The inability to float. If he falls into deep water, whether flesh or stone, he will sink and the only way to get out would be to try and walk the bottom (which could result in drowning) or turn statue and be stuck there until someone found him. Shallow water or just water itself as a substance does not scare him though. Only deep water and the idea of being trapped or drowning.
- Stenson’s flesh is as susceptible to injury as any flesh and blood creature. If injured, he will bleed until his wounds are repaired with granite (ground, caked, powdered, or whole pieces). Losing a limb would really ruin Stenson’s day. Not only would it be incredibly painful, but would also be the most difficult injury to heal and repair. Scarring can happen, and mostly depends on any seams or imperfections in his repair.
- Stone Skin can lessen the severity of a wound upon impact, but the damage to the stone would translate to physical damage depending on how badly he was hit.
o Examples: Scratch might not translate to much. Cracks or small chips could translate to scrapes, bruising, or cuts. Broken chunks could translate to intense bruising and possibly gashes. And complete break-offs will cause severe physical injury. A gunshot would be the worst, he would survive, but it would still hurt and might need medical attention.
o Stone Skin is also only effective if he sees an attack coming and can use it in time. Surprise attacks from an enemy are the worst, since Stenson would not have time to form any kind of protection.
Misc/Other:
- He does not have any feral tendencies, and pretty much only eats human food. He enjoys meat more than most, but it is not out of the ordinary for a man to enjoy his bacon burgers. The only odd thing about Stenson when it comes to food, is his appetite is greater than a human’s, so he tends to eat more than a normal male human.
- Every morning and evening, Stenson will take high-dosage mineral supplements, something recommended by the WDSA medical team. If he doesn’t take them, he tends to get tired easily, have rough/unhealthy skin, and weaker stone quality when statue/stone skin. Claws and fangs can be brittle as well. As long as he takes them, his health is in good shape.
- Stenson is not opposed to going out on a nice day. He tends to wear protective clothing on sunny days, but if he’s in shade or if the day is cloudy, he will be just fine.
- Stenson loves dogs. He hasn’t gotten one for himself (yet), but if he sees a dog, he will most certainly go play with it or ask to say hello.
