I give the photo the very high rating because it works completely, including the use of the thick border which contains the delicate, if persuasive, action. You have positioned the camera perfectly to place the sunlight on the top of the daffodil and the face of the contrasting leaves in order to explain the drama which we view at first sight, and there is lots of dramatic action in the composition as we feel the flower reaching for life at the beginning of spring. The shallow depth of field amplifies the shot with generous swirling bokeh and a mysterious darkness emerges from the upper left of the frame, which adds the dimension of a vague threat to the porcelain-crisp flower. The photo expresses the confidence of a good lens and camera in the hands of a "pro" who is not afraid to tackle the cliche of a daffodil shot and who pulls it off with true mastery, giving the viewer a feeling of "ahh". I think that's what the photographer was after.

I agree. I really almost thought it was focused on the flower till I really looked and realized how its as the artist says an intimate landscape of the flower, sky and leave blades. It is wonderful in black and white and how its shows the view to look up but the small lovely world around the flower.

I agree 100% on all points. I love the delicious textures of the skyward-pointed blades, and the way their height descends from left to right, and the understated vignetting. I'm assuming that's natural lens vignetting, and it works wonderfully here. A perfect composition and an incredible photograph.

I really like the softness of the flower, and the subtle contrast is has with its immediate background. The darker leafs at the bottom complement this picture, and provide a nice tonal gradation.
Awesome shot
Next year my own garden will be more interesting to shoot. Newly planted vegetation needs a while to develop. I hope my forays will be as fruitful as yours.

Thanks. The TLR works well for shots like this; with an SLR you have to be flat on your stomach. Β This from our previous house. Β Our garden here is not yet much to look at.
Blessings,
Steve

This is one of my fav's in your gallery Steve.
Lighting is great, focus is perfect. I very much enjoy the contrast in the blades of grass. I probably enjoy the light and shadows in the grass even more than the flower itself.
Thank you for sharing!

It does have a some, almost ethereal air to it.
