Description
This took me a ton of late nights in a week's worth of work. The painting was done on one layer because I decided to be an a--hole to myself, obviously.
His shirt was supposed to be a plaid shirt and I was like,"Ha, screw that!" so it is just a collared shirt now with no plaid designs because screw detailed patterns on clothing...Β Β
Ugh, I effed up Norman's eyebrows...

Oh my god, it's so close to photorealism! There's so much life in their eyes. <3 Well done

Thank you! The eyes are what really brings out the emotion in a character/person, so I put most of my time and effort there for that exact reason!
Thanks for the comment!

Ahg! I'm so happy right now. You're so flippin' awesome, and to be getting you speaking with capital letters makes me feel like I've accomplished something in life!
thanks for the bootiful comment , Star!
I felt like I had to spend my summer improving my art skills. I somehow magically got into my dream school with my crappy portfolio filled with all of last year's junk. I feel like I'm obligated to walk in there knowing at least a lil' bit of realism, even though it's a pain. Now I need to work on my animals because I can't draw animals AT ALL!

Hey, I think I know someone who might help you with animals; Β Look up a guy named Aaron Blaise, he's an animator at Disney and he has a bunch of tutorials on how to draw animals n stuff. Β (He was the lead animator to Brother Bear! :3) Β Not cartoon animals, though, realistic ones. Β They might help you out

You should watch it. Each season consists of 10 episodes each, and there's currently 3 seasons; so you can binge watch this show very quickly I believe all three seasons are currently on Netflix, and season 4 comes out (probably) later on this year! [I personally wait until they come out on Netflix. the lack of commercials and being able to binge watch an entire season at once is totally worth the wait.] They said it has five seasons booked and then that's it, so luckily--unlike most shows--they won't try to drag out the story too long.
It's called "Adobe Photoshop Elements 11"I got it for free from a digital download on the Wacom website when I got my [Wacom Intuos] penΒ tablet last year; although I'mΒ 99.999% sure it's sold as it's own disc in stores, in case you wanted it or something [I have PaintTool SAI as well, but I stopped using that because I've finally learned to use my photoshop properly--to the point where I can't stop using that as my go-to-program for art now. Also, Whenever I do the lineart on SAI, it looks really effed up.]
And thank yah for da kind words, plallie-boo (lol, sorry)

Here's a little bit of advice in case you ever do get a tablet:
1. Make sure you have the extra nibs in the box. If you don't have any, you can go to the store and trade it in for the exact same tablet with your receipt because the extra nibs are really important. I didn't notice that mine didn't come with any nibs, and now I'm suck with being stupid to not realize that before. I stole a tablet pen nib from the tablet nib collection in my high school animation/web design/yearbook room a few months ago...I should feel guilty, but I really don't--only because they literally had a pencil case FULL of them! They're not gonna notice a nib was stolen... (ugh, if anything, I should have taken more than just one! Dammit...) And besides, I'm not getting caught because I graduated... hehe, suckers... (I'm so lame... My 'rebellious grad move' was stealing one tablet nib....That's the worst thing I ever did in high school...)
2. Make sure that you set up the option settings properly so that you can have proper pressure.
3. Make sure you don't accidentally change the eraser of the tablet pen to a pen side... I did that by accident and have no clue on how to change it back... So, I have a double sided pen...And every flippin' time I have to erase something I have to change between the pen tool and the eraser tool over and over and over......... :faepalm:
4. I recommend getting a program specifically for drawing, like [Scketchbook Pro? lol idk] or something. Photoshop was technically made for photo manipulation, but most artists--including myself--say, "screw it!" and use it for visual art anyway.
5. Your best bet is to sketch on paper first, take a photo of it or scan it, and only use the digital stuff for clean lineart and digital colouring. Sketching on a tablet is annoying af...imo
Hope ya liked it!

Thanks for the tips! These will come in handy...my Mom is thinking of writing a children's book based off a poem she wrote in high school, and she wants me to illustrate it. So we both kinda want a tablet.
I have Sketchbook Pro! It's really awesome. Especially with the range of Copics they have. So expensive in stores...

Damn! Why would you want photoshop then? lol, I've heard that program was excellent (In my paragraph, I wasn't sure if that was what it was called, so I added a question mark.)

Yeah really? xD idk. It really is. They have a group, , that has a bunch of tutorials and art pieces from people who use it. You should consider getting it. It's free, as long as you just get the standard pack. It's my main program, except for a few things, like making icons. For that I use MS Paint.

Actually, I have a whole list of programs available to me with a digital code for my tablet. It could possibly be one of the options. I'm too lazy to check atm, but oh well.
