Sometimes life can be dark. A close one has died, you feel lonely or war has forced you away from home. But remember that a flower can bloom anywhere; light will shine again.That is "flower power" to me ^^ These beautiful plants brings life to nature and our minds. This is my very first entry to a deviantart contest: www.deviantart.com/team/journa… And I recorded the process, so a video on youtube will be up later today!

I intended this painting to be viewed from many angles, because every individual has gone through different things in life and see things in a different ways. Death can be a touchy matter, so I thought it was best to leave it open ^^

Light is always a favorite metaphor to me, though it can become overused if you're not careful. Beautifully done here though, with the contrast between the menacing background and the earth tones, with the brilliant color of the flower (orchid?)
I always love the power of strong foreshortening in an image, and the way it creates the feeling of depth and movement. Her reaching from the darkness into the light touches deeply...
(especially meaningful for me at the moment...)

Thank you very much ^_^ I honestly haven't thought of those things you mentioned until now! When planning a painting, I always go for the composition, lighting and colors that feel or look right, without really thinking about the technical things. It somehow managed to come together nicely in this one.
The flower's an Iris, blue/purple Iris. A blue colored one usually has the meaning of hope and faith, and a purple wisdom. I'm happy you like this painting and also sorry for your dear ones that has passed...

Ah, THAT'S the flower I was looking for. For some reason, orchid came to mind, but I knew that wasn't right. I love the Iris flower, and love the symbol of hope in the blue. I see many of them, both in gardens, and growing wild along the sides of roads. They always make me smile.
Thank you again for your artwork. Just as the flowers growing along the side of the road, art like this makes our journey more beautiful.

Orchids does look a bit like Iris actually, and honestly, I couldn't have told the difference if I hadn't done some research beforehand!
