A few days after rescuing, Marina, Jake can’t stop thinking about the sweet mermaid, who kissed his cheek . So he flies down to the water’s edge, takes out the magical Sea shell, and whispers into it Marina.. After a few minutes a small woman’s head with seafoam green hair peeks out of the water as she gets closer Jake realizes the seashell worked its Marina! Jake is so excited to see her. He rushes into the water and picks her up, holding her tightly to his chest. Marina blushes and hugs him back. “I’ve missed you pretty girl” Jake exclaims. “i’ve missed you too handsome dragon”. Marina says batting her eyelashes at him. Jake blushes, “ I’d like to get to know you better” he says as he carries Marina towards the beach. “I’d like to get to know you better too” marina says bashfully. “I’m flattered” says Jake. “But ladies first” he insist. “Well I guess the first thing you should know about me is that I have a little bit of autism. I’m different from the other mermaids”. Marina says sheepishly. “There’s nothing wrong with being different”. Jake says with a smile. “I understand where you’re coming from. I’m actually a man who can turn into a dragon and i’m mixed. My father is a white man and my mother is Asian. I can relate, and I bet you see the world in a Beautiful Way”, Jake says. “That’s really sweet of you to say, and I bet you have a beautiful skin tone”. Marina says bashfully. Jake blushes and giggles a little bit. “You’re a sweetheart” he exclaims. “Takes one to no one”. Marina replies with a wink. Jake smiles at her. “So as your friend, is there, anything I should know about your autism”? He ask sitting down next to her. “ well, I guess the hardest part is having meltdowns.” She replies. “meltdowns”? Jake Ask a little confused “ it’s kind of like a panic attack except for the fact that a panic attack causes someone to not be able to move out of fear. When I have a meltdown, I either get so sad that I feel the need to cry it out or so angry that I have to take my anger out on something like a pillow.” she explains
“I’m sorry to hear that” Jake replies with a sad look on his face. “Is there anything I can do to help you when you do have a meltdown”? he ask “no one’s ever asked me that before”. Marina replies, blushing a little bit.” that’s very sweet of you Jake” she say. “That’s what friends are for” he replies, smiling. Marina continues, “ well when I have a sad meltdown, just give me a really tight hug, Let me cry it out for a little bit, and tell me everything‘s gonna be OK. When I have an angry meltdown, let me take it out on something then give me a hug and tell me that it’s OK to be angry”. She says
“ I can do that” Jake says “ I love giving hugs anyway especially to pretty ladies” he says with a wink . “ You’re very sweet” Marina says batting her eyelashes at him. “So are you” he replies. As Jake looks at the beautiful, sweet mermaid, a thought crossed his mind a thought that he really hopes is wrong. “ um Marina”? “do you have a boyfriend”? Jake asks sheepishly “Please say no, please say no.” he thinks to himself. “What”? she replies shocked by his question. “No, I’ve never had a boyfriend I’ve never been on a date I never been kissed, i’ve never even held hands with a guy. But it’s sweet of you to think that I could possibly have a boyfriend. kind of pathetic, huh”? “No”! Jake replies “that’s not pathetic at all, all that means is when that stuff does happen for you, you will truly cherish it”. He says, placing his hand on her shoulder “thank you Jake” she replies “I needed to hear that”. “You’re welcome”. “He says so you really never held hands with a guy before”? He ask still shocked by her answer. “Nope”, she replies. “Well”, Jake says, “now you can say you held hands with a dragon guy” he says, as he slides his hand into hers and interlock his fingers with hers. “Oh, Jake”, she replies her whole face turning pink “that is so sweet of you”. “Anything for my sweet mermaid”, he replies, blushing a little himself. The dragon and the mermaid spend the rest of the evening, talking, laughing, and holding hands.
