That's how I always imagined all Links eventually meet their end. With ganon(dorf) out of the picture, henchmen will want personal revenge, just to settle the score. And each Link seems to have some habit of setting out on their own when the job is done. They're all bound to get jumped at some point, falling in a massive gauntlet only because they have the element of surprise against them and because they no longer have a destiny to fulfill with ol' ganon out of the picture, meaning they lack the drive to persevere, unlike before. Thus there is the hero, falling far away from civilization in battle, leaving Zelda to tell of a legend where the hero disappeared, only to never return. A legend of Zelda.
