Having imaginary friends when younger is often a sign that the individual is a creative one. Which in turn makes a good artist.

Wow. I just found this in one of my friend's favorites folders and I was just drawn to it. This is an amazing piece, dude. The scenery is just beautiful and the style is very admirable. Nothing like charging down an endless open field with a buddy. Now you got me thinking about my kid days. Nostalgia hit me hard. ^^

This actually quite reminds me of a book a read in my childhood, called "Zack's Alligator". My older brother is named Zack, so we used to read the book all the time, which is why I also had an imaginary friend, who was an alligator named Chester.
