A graphite drawing of 'Spiderman'. Both spiderman and wolverine are my 2 favourite comic characters. I had done a graphite drawing of 'Hugh Jackmans wolverine' earlier [link] . So i decided to draw the 'Andrew Garfield' spiderman from the film that came out this year.I also consider this my first 'full graphite drawing'. As my other drawings in my gallery were me getting to grips with graphite, as I only started using them 8 weeks ago. This was also one of the toughest drawing i have ever done, taking about 60 hours over 6 days.
And I spent 20-25 hours of that time drawing each of the holes on the suit individually and creating the different shades and depths and lighting of each one. The total holes on the suit are 1563 (i counted i know that's really sad, but i needed to know). And i was surprised to find that the head had more holes on it consisting of 805 whereas the body made up the rest of 758, to total up to 1563. I thought about other simpler solutions, but knew i would not get the effect that i wanted. So i decided to do them the hard way one at a time (which at times i seriously regreted, but i'm glad I perservered).
I also really appreciate all the fav's, comments and positive critques, which only pushes me to want to get better. In particular my watchers who helped me to perservre during the long tedious drawing process which i posted on DD (they know who they are).

The drawing was done on A3 Bristol Board paper using standard and mechanical graphite pencils.

You've got a great amount of detail here, which is nifty. Push your values further. Having most of the work in that middle grey area, with a few jumps to pure white, is limiting how great the work could be.
That's all there really is, but DA wants more words for some asinine reason. Shall I write a poem or something?
Also, take a look at the empire state building back there, it leans a wee bit to the right, and seems to be totally borking an otherwise really solid example of two point perspective.
Five more words and I'm there. Oy.
And don't worry about my stars - 3 for me is average at a pro level. Most of my drawings I would rate a two.

I am really astounded by the detail in this drawing! Not only is the costume a work of so many hours but the background is a work of art in and of itself. For some reason, the city reflected in his eyes really catches my attention. I'd give you a 5 on vision 4 on originality and a 5 on both technique and impact.The care you took on the small circles on his suit just baffles my mind.Kudos on the attention to detail. I'd love to see you apply this much care and intensity into an original work! It would be truly awesome!

At first, I'd like to declare that it is an amazingly detailed drawing, which looks like absolutely realistic. Therefore the Technique, the Impact and the Vision deserve 5 stars. Spiderman is a frequently used superhero, so Originality "only" 4.5 stars.
The background (and everything, especially the holes) is(/are) highly worked-out. To sum up: this drawing is beautiful and perfect; the details are awesome and (from my point of view) this Spiderman is better than the original. I totally fell in love with it. You are a really gifted artist. I recommend everyone to +watch you, favourite your wonderful drawings. And finally good luck for the future, I'm (and many people besides me are) waiting for your new drawings.

Just to start off, This piece is beautifully done. The fact that it captures the light and reflection of the original movie cover is quite impressive to say the least. The detail is also incredibly done. The way you are able to see every single pock mark just draws you in even more. Last but not least, the cut marks look very realistic. The way the suit material pulls back from the injury give the suit the proper stretchy feeling to it. All in all, amazingly done! Keep up the awesome work and I hope to see more from you.

Not only did the artist put the effort into this, which was a gargantuan undertaking in and of itself, but they took the time to make this a truly magnificent work of art. I honestly cannot find one flaw in the entire piece and the handling of the media was superb! Never before have I seen such an accurate depiction with such precision, it's as if a master craftsman drafted it. The artist literally captured reality in a bottle and spilled it onto a blank canvas, creating a masterpiece worthy of the praise of Da Vinci himself! Excellent and exact replication of the reference with mechanical proficiency and beautiful, lifelike drawing, just absolutely marvelous. I've seen several mimics of the very same picture, but not with the level of accuracy this one displays.

Another amazing piece of art by you. In graphite as well, which is absolutely stunning. The reflection in his eyes of the city are done well, they reflect where he is aiming to go and his goals. The costume itself is beautifully detailed, the "holes" in his costume are shaded perfectly. The spider webs behind him really characterizes who he is and expresses his abilities. The city behind him has beautiful lighting that captures the eye, the detailed lights are perfect laid on top of a smokey background. This creates a classic atmosphere of hero versus villain, where the villain causes the city to plunge into chaos, and the hero, Spiderman, has come to remove that vice of evil. Well done for adding yet another stunning work to your gallery.

I know this sounds stupid, but what is the difference between drawing pencils and graphite? I am really amazed at the detail you've applied to this. I am fairly new at determining which is better to use and which gives the best effect... Maybe you can give me some tips? It would be greatly appreciated.Β

Thanks allot. It's not a stupid question as I didn't know myself until a year ago. In terms of price and look of the pencil not much difference, but when you draw with them theres a big difference. As graphite can be manipulated and blended in a way normal pencils can't so don't be afraid and start using them asap XD.

Your a beast man!!! Love the hard WORK and dedication to your craft! Im trying to develop that kind of patience my self. But your work is truely amazing! much respect. Your attention to light and detailing is incredible. would love to know what you think of my work because i use graphite as well mixed with charchol. But i can't get that realistic effect that you get. A tip would be greatly appreciated.
