Description
The Chand Baori is a massive stepwell at Abhaneri, near Jaipur. It is thought to have been built in the 8th or 9th century, possibly by Raja Chanda of of the Nikumbh dynasty, after whom it is named. at 100' deep, it is one of the deepest in India. What's curious to me, is that the high estimate for the water level at Monsoon would be close to the top of the steps, which means at least a portion of the colonnade pavilion area would be underwater - still the case even if it's only half full. I assume in modern times the ASI keeps the well drained to preserve the structure.
Abhaneri, Rajasthan, India
