There's no ice cream here, but I thought the title sounded well. XD This is a gift for my dear friend Kidaelo . Kinda a goodbye gift, since he's just leaving for a two-year mission in Peru. But it's a happy occasion, not a sad one, even if DeviantART won't be the same without him! Best wishes and a million hugs, my friend!These are Meowy the cat-penguin (my character) and Kidaelo the samoyed (Ryan's character), both ice cream and adventure lovers.
As I understand, Kid loves to paint his fur, so I gave myself quite a lot of freedom with his colors. XD But I think he's very lovely in every color scheme.Animating them was so much fun, though I'm not completely happy with Kid's run, it should have been smoother. But I hope you'll forgive me, it's only my first attempt at animating animal run.

Soooo adorable! I just can't even describe it! I think it looks very smooth and just overall well-done. I totally wish I could do animation, but I can rarely draw the same thing exactly the same way twice, so I'm afraid my frames would be very inconsistent. And I know I say this every time, but I just love Meowy! He's even cuter in motion. Must hug!

Awww, thank you!!! Meowy is goofy and much fun to animate, and I'm glad to hear you like him. XD
Animation is in fact easier than it seems, and can be super fun (although also boring sometimes, when you have to draw a million frames that are almost exactly the same; I always start getting sloppy when I have to be very precise with redrawing frames, so I prefer dynamic scenes with larger differences between each pose of the character... that way you can make minor mistakes and still have a scene that looks okay ). If you're interested in trying it sometime, there are some great books which I warmly recommend: Animation by Preston Blair and Animator's Survival Kit by Richard Williams. They're basically a very detailed, step-by-step guides made by top-notch animators, and explain the basics of hand-drawn animation very simply yet thoroughly, with tons of examples.

I'd been thinking of trying something really small and simple first, like an icon that winks or wags its tail or something. It's on the list of stuff to try eventually.

Great! Yup, starting with simple things is best. Animation, even in it's simplest form, can be very satisfying - I love the feeling I get when I finish something; I'm always like "Oh look, it moves, it's alive!" XD I do hope you'll have fun doing it and watching your it come alive, and I hope you'll show us you creations here!
