I've got one of these plants and they're full of life and colour throughout the year. This photo captures those fiery red and deep green leaves beautifully. Good shot!

This is the Croton, Codiaeum variegatum, of the same family as Euphorbias, of which the Poinesttia is probably the best known. They're also called 'spurges', as the crushed seeds were used as purgatives, but are now thought to be too poisonous to be used for this purpose.
Crotons need full sun and should not be overwatered. If the leaves start yellowing, it means it's not getting enough sun. They will grow indoors, in a full-sun window.

Gah! No, it's defeated me, I'm afraid. A view of the whole plant, with in-focus leaves might help (but probably wouldn't!)
