This is a Shingeki no Kyojin/Attack on Titan OC I created for 's OC design contest.

This is Lahava, 5'3", seventeen years old and a former member of the Recon Corp. Lahava is fiercely loyal and recklessly brave, and cared deeply for her comrades. At the same time she is extremely introverted, so it wasn't always clear how much they meant to her. To make matters even worse, Lahava is impatient and easily tempered, especially with people who matter to her. Despite her close attachment to her comrades, she found it very difficult to work in a group.

She joined the Recon Corp due to her lust for adventure, but after witnessing many of her friends devoured by the Titans, her motivations were replaced with hate and a desire for revenge.

Lahava grows her hair long despite it being risky to have long hair when using the maneuver gear. This is because when she was instructed to cut it, her squadron leader told her that it would be a shame to let such beautiful hair go to waste, and she showed Lahava a way of tying her hair and concealing it with her hood so that it wouldn't get caught in the gear. Years later Lahava still continues to do this.

Now Lahava lives in complete isolation from the rest of humanity. She spends most of her time in the Forest of Giant Trees, sleeping in a hammock high above the Titans' reach, hunting using her 3D maneuver gear and stealing gas and spare blades from a nearby Recon Corp stronghold. She only manages to live with herself by fighting to repress memories of her past, but sometimes they flood back into her and she can hardly stand it. Lahava had discovered in the most brutal way imaginable that she could turn into a Titan.

It was over a year previously, when Lahava had gotten into an argument with one of her comrades about something she can't even remember anymore. At one point Lahava got so angry that she drew one of her blades. As she did she grazed one of her arms with it, and turned into an enormous Titan. Having been furious in the moments before she transformed, Lahava proceeded to kill every last member of her squadron.

When she emerged from the Titan later, she found herself surrounded by the comrades she loved so much, killed by her own hands. Having become one of the creatures she so hated, and having destroyed almost everything she loved in the world, Lahava drew one of her blades to kill herself. As she did though, one of the bands the captain had given her to tie her hair with fell out, and the sight of it made Lahave break down in tears. She found some strange resolve to continue living, and decided to leave humanity behind and fight the Titans on her own, deep in the forest. She worked better by herself anyway.

And so she continues to live, a silent flame hidden in the forest, fierce, untamed... and alone.

A few additional details... Attack on Titan character names have all kinds of origins, from German to Hebrew to Turkish to Japanese... I spent quite some time trying to figure out a name. I landed on Ariella, because it means 'Lioness of God', and I wanted to draw attention to her wild nature, but the 'of God' bit didn't seem to fit. Then I came across the name 'Lahava', which means flame. I thought it suited her nature quite well, but then I thought I ought to take the symbolism further and give her red hair instead of the black hair I'd originally intended. Since this isn't coloured you can decide for yourself which colour you want her hair to be.

Okay I feel like there's something else I need to mention that I've forgotten... ah well.
Creating this was a lot of fun I'm really thankful to for holding this contest, I learned a lot creating this. I also know most character design sketches feature characters in varying outfits and poses, but since the outfit in this one is ready-made, I thought instead to describe the character with the moments that defined her.
