Description I always wondered if Maine was really in control when he attacked other Freelancers for their AI, or if it was the AI who were controlling him.

With Sigma in his head, i highly doubt Maine is willing to do his dirty work. Even if Maine is a brute and a bit egotistical, I don't think he has it in him to attack his comrades without some driving force, IE Sigma.

Hope yall like. I entered it at the Rooster Teeth Freelancer art contest, but I also did it for a portfolio.

This really makes the Meta all the more tragic. Nice job, man!

This is an amazing piece. I like the feeling it gives off, dark and sinister. Sigma is one cruel and deceiving AI

While this is an excellent piece of work, I must disagree with your interpretation of the Meta's rampage. First off, let me point out that the Meta is my favorite villain of the show, and is tied with Caboose with my favorite character overall.

That said

Even without Sigma in his head, the Meta pursued the reds and blues in hopes of recovering Epsilon, which was in Caboose's possession, and the moment he got his hands on Epsilon Tex, he turned on Wash and attempted to kill him and the others.

The statement "We are the Meta" clearly shows a personal view of being a singular entity made up of numerous parts

Even before Sigma's implantation, Maine was not a good person. He had admirable traits, sure, but if I were to draw a comparison to other fictional characters when describing the Meta, Venom from Marvel Comics, Gollum from LOTR, and a general comparison to a crack addict. It's an addiction that corrupted what little good was in him, the AI were demons in his ear whispering words of encouragement for every act of treason and murder he committed, celebrating every ally, friend, and innocent he strikes down in his pursuit of power

Merely making a counter argument to have a discussion. I'm curious on your personal view

I was actually avoiding making a reply, because i really didn't want to start a potential argument.

But if you really want to start this, I think that Sigma was able to alter Maine's mindset at a very deep level. Even if maine wouldnt have attacked his friends before, he may now because Sigma's played with his emotions.

A discussion between two people is different than an argument. This is the former, not the latter.

That is what an addiction does. It changes you, and turns you into something ugly, and when that happens not even your closet friends will be able to see. Maine was addicted to power, and thus fell to the influence of the words of Sigma, the demon on his shoulder.

But in a sense, there was still control on Maine's part. Sure, he lost control in the way one loses control to a drug, but he did willingly transform into the Meta to feed his insatiable hunger, and even without Sigma or the other AI in his head, Maine was gone. Only the Meta remained.

I personally think that if Maine had remained around his friends, he could have maintained his humanity and been a pretty nifty guy. he definitely had his funny moments, and he does have a very big ego, but his friends all know that deep down, he's a big softie.

but you're right, he did desire power, and having Sigma in his head was likely the biggest factor for why he acted on his desires.

I'll put it this way- I like fast cars, i like the idea of driving fast. I want to but.. there's plenty of reasons to not do it. But I have a friend IRL, we don't hang often because he's always travelling but he's very charismatic and when i'm around him, i feel my inhibitions waning. I get into his car and i don't care if we go fast. See what i mean? Sigma was a bad influence on Maine like that friend is on me.

if Maine had been given eta or iota, he might've not become 'evil'.

Wow, this is excellent. You've got some natural talent! Dark, melancholy; suits the characters really well

P.S: Do you take requests? If you do, I've got a picture of the Meta that maybe you could redo, if you want to

Ya, I agree with you. Maine would have never done what he did to Carolina (and the other agents) unless he was under Sigma's influence. I mean, he already took a bullet for her, and he always seemed to be the first to help her fight the "bad guys" Not to mention he didn't seem to get pissed at her for kicking him off the building, and he saved her and York when they jumped off the building. Heck, he even actually spoke "Thanks" when she complimented him.
