Description To be perfectly honest i'm only uploading this because i figured out how to use marmoset's materials system. speaking of materials, goddamn the normal on Sake's face makes her look 40. WHOOPS.

Though in my defense I made these materials like 6 months ago sssooooo.... yeah. Also ignore that awful shadowed 'clipping' on the edges of the metal pieces. that's also the result of my shitty sculpting in zbrush (omg guiz i learned how to use the crease function!) so i may eventually make new materials for sake so she doesn't look like an old hag.

til then, HAVE A HASTILY RENDERED SNAPSHOT. C:

Is it bad of me to say she kinda looks like Sephiroth?

not at all. years ago her hair style was pretty much Integra Hellsing and Sephiroth combined. i'm not very creative LOL i tried changing her hairstyle years later but it didn't feel right. as for her face.. its prone to changing a bit. its still a bit weird atm.

Ahh, okay. That makes sense. I don't think I've ever imagined her hair like Sephiroth hair, so it's surreal to me that she actually has it.
(past me honestly imagined a ponytail and no-nonsense despite her hair being LONG, tbh)

At least you're working and learning as you go along. I've only just entered into zbrush, so I know it's a learning curve.

actually her very first design had short hair that was black, in a pony tail, with blond tips. Idk what posessed me to draw her hair as long and solid black. all i know is it stuck and its been central to her design and any attempt to change it since has been a disaster.

There's tons more i want to do and learn a long the way but i've gotta balance my time between kzk and personal works.

Yeah, time management has been a real issue all around. But I think you'll get it balanced a lot easier than I ever will, ahaha. I'm a terrible person with time management.
Still, it's cool to see Sake as an actual visual representation after so long. It's been a way long time since I stumbled across your fics, but I definitely remember.

I've been rewriting em over the last year or so but im not happy with the pacing or quality on the redux of what if. So i'm drawing out a timeline and im going to take things back a few steps so i can better pace the story. Trying to weave in some subplots, overarching stories and conflicts, new original characters and better balance out her relationship with Jak since in the original version of the fic it happens entirely too fast (in my defense i was 14 when i wrote that..)

Perhaps with some luck it'll all work out.

Yeah, I was 13-14ish when I read it. And with the nostalgia glasses on, I still really liked it. I mean, I didn't really relate with Sake's interests, but being caught in a world you loved and was much scarier than you'd ever thought it'd be is something I got in through. And I'm glad you're gonna give it a present!you revamp. I'd like to read it, honestly.

yeah i've admittedly been giving the story the Christopher Nolan treatment, primarily because looking at a world like haven, run by a man like the baron.. it'd be a horrible place to live. you'd have such a great disparity between the rich, who pay off the guard to look the other way-while they commit their atrocities in the nicer districts of the city (palace district, stadium district), while the slums are home to the poor and desperate rubbing shoulders with the evil and violent criminals hiding away from the Guard's ever watchful eye, all while the guard also extorts money and eco from them in exchange for 'protection'. Rapes, robbery, muggings, murder, kidnapping, prostitution, human trafficking, drug trafficking.. they'd all be major issues, festering in the slums while getting filthy rich off the fat cats' sick habits. All the while the Baron turns a blind eye(ha) so he can keep in power, thinking he's got the Metal heads wrapped around his fingers. I imagine the 'nicest' place to live for anyone in haven would be the docks, or the outer rural/suburb areas with the farms because you'd just lead a simple life away from big city troubles, working hard to bring in a wage for your family, though i imagine the docks would be a huge staging ground for a huge international black market trade as drug lords and gang leaders/mob bosses convince the cargo ships to smuggle their cargo to places like Kras, and even places as far as Aeropa(i might not like that game's story, but i can still incorporate some of the details/lore. After all, its not like huge cities like Aeropa just magically appeared. they would've had to have existed for a long time.)

All in all the story goes from being a shameless (and pathetic) 'self insert' to.. well i don't know what. a dark romantic action? not entirely sure myself. Take a 15 year old girl, thrust her into the violent dark underbelly of the world's most corrupt and tainted city, lock her away in a dark cell for two years, subject her to the horrors and crimes committed within so that when she finally gets free, her entire perception and understanding of the world has been completely shattered. Give that same shattered girl a weapon and a reason to fight and she's a far cry from the naive gamer she would be just a few years before. Trained to kill(but naturally reluctant to do so), mutated into something... imperfect, and always sleeping with one eye open.. I can only hope to capture the images in my head, even if it borders on the dark and depressing all too often. One could only guess at the ramifications a life like this might have on someone returning to the 'real' world after so many years....

the hardest part will be finding ways to integrate the charm and humor between Jak and Daxter since that can easily get lost in all the insanity.

One last comment on haven: I imagine haven being a pretty sizable city with a population of 750k -1 million, while the areas inside the walls cover roughly 150 sq miles (roughly the size of Birmingham Alabama) The city itself would be compact and mostly vertical to accommodate the staggering population density(6700 per sq mile), with the city covering maybe 30-40% of the territory, while the remaining 60-70% would focus on farm land and cattle. A train system anchored to the top of the walls would allow for quick travel around the perimeter, with krimzon drop ships providing immediate precision response to a threat or emergency. Roughly half the guard's ranks are dedicated to scouting the walls and securing it against infiltration. Its a city walking on egg shells, with its enemies just waiting for the baron to make that critical mistake. The ballooned population almost guarantees a constant state of unrest and turmoil, making the rich richer and the poor suffer more.
