Featuring Alek as a young child and his parents, the archduke and his wife...For this theme, it was easier for me to imagine Alek and Deryn with their families when they were younger than it was for me to picture Deryn sporting a dress, apron, and baby in her arms. So I decided to challenge myself (read: spam you) and do both. You tell me how it turned out.

I really like this! And I think it is perfectly accurate that neither Alek nor his father are smiling. Typical royalty portrait. ;D

Heh, thanks! I meant to have Alek's father not smiling because people didn't normally smile for portraits then (and, y'know, the weight of an empire on your shoulders), and Alek because he did not want to stand there in uncomfortable clothes for a portrait. Royalty works better, I think
