Quick Gertie sketch. Her design is still a work-in-progress, so please don't ask me about it.
After posting some of my index card doodles here today, I’ve gotten some great tips from my friends.
And it’s gotten me all fired up to try traditional art again!
However this time, I’ll be doing something different:
I wanna see if using lined paper helps me draw (and gets me to do traditional art more often.)
I've been trying to use sketchbooks and fancy drawing paper for years, but I just can't seem to stick to it. These days, I don’t have room in my bag/desk for a proper sketchbook. (Well, only a small one, but I quickly get bored being confined to drawing in such a tiny space like that. So I keep getting annoyed and end up not using them...) After 2 years of trying, I think it's high time I admit "that method's not working for me right now," and try something else.
I always seem to have my 8.5x11 lined-paper notebooks with me (for work, planning, journaling, everything.) Perhaps the convenience of having it available on me at all times will get me to draw more often.
It used to REALLY BOTHER ME, having the notebook lines show up in the background. But since then, I’ve learned how to easily remove the lines digitally, so it’s not an issue anymore. (Was too lazy to do it here tho. xD) And tbh I just don’t even care anymore. Practicing drawing is essential, ugly notebook lines in the background or not.
Just feels nice to always have more options/mediums available.
Drawing digitally is amazing, but to be restricted to ONLY doing digital for 2 years feels suffocating.
And I gotta admit, pencil-and-paper still has some advantages (portable, no electricity/batteries required, faster for me, due to not obsessing over zooming in/out) and its own unique charm to it.
Let’s try it and see!
