I read the book, and don't remember the final showdown between Ultraman and Mecha-Godzilla.Β I did like the movie much more than the book, but this would have been epic to see in a movie.

It happened in the book. Β It didn't happen in the film because the companies that produced Ultraman over the years were still sorting out who actually own the film rights to the character. Β Ironically, two weeks after the film came out, the companies finally sorted out the issue.

Thanks, I heard it from the book too. The Iron Giant took the role in the movie with the Mobile Suit Gundam.
Ultraman should have been in the movie, if they would only allow it just once!

Like I said, the companies that made the Ultraman series over the years had to iron out who owned the film right before permission could be given to include him. Β However, there is one aspect of Ultraman that was used in the film (or at least from what I've read): the countdown timer and the alert noise + flashing for when time was almost up. Β Maybe if the next book does extremely good and they go to do it as a film, they may get to include him.
