“First and final warning.”

Mufasa glowered down at the jackal, who met his gaze defiantly. Behind him stood his mate and adult pup, both of whom were keeping their distance from the prince.

“Should you ever even think about hunting a calf again,” he hissed, “You and anyone who joins you will be exiled from the Pridelands. And know that the only reason you haven’t been exiled already is due to the drought—we understand the desperation that comes with hunger, my pride feels it keenly. But my father will not tolerate such vile behavior.”

“Why doesn’t your father tell us himself?” the jackal growled.

“He is resolving an argument at the waterhole—or what’s left of it—and sent me to speak to you. In case you haven’t noticed, Natokea, everyone is suffering right now. We must take care of each other, as well as ourselves, in this drought. If animals start breaking the law now, there will be no chance for any of us.”

Without another word, Mufasa turned from the jackal pack and began the trek back to Pride Rock. Once he was out of earshot, Natokea growled at the prince’s retreating form.

“‘First and final warning’,” he mocked, turning to his mate, “Who does he think he is?”

“He thinks he’s the prince,” his son answered, before his mother could speak, “Speaking on behalf of the king. Seriously, Dad, going after a calf? We can survive the drought without that.” He sighed, as he added: “There’s only three of us to feed, anyway.”

“If it weren’t for this drought, there’d still be five of us,” his father said.

“It’s not as if that’s anybody’s fault. And King Ahadi isn’t trying to keep us from hunting—just from breaking the most important laws of the Pridelands. Why didn’t you go after one of the adults?”

“...Thought it’d be easier to kill a baby,” he grumbled, quietly.

“Yeah, I bet,” the younger jackal huffed, “Y’know, if you do get exiled, I—I’m.... No promises that I’m going with you.”

Natokea rolled his eyes, and turned away.

So, headcanon: the Pridelands have had plenty of jackals living within their boarders, over the years. Natokea and his mate do attempt to kill a child again and they do get exiled, though their son stays a Pridelander. He lives through the end of Ahadi’s reign and into Mufasa’s, but eventually leaves the Pridelands to find a mate.

His parents, now living in the Outlands, would proceed to have more pups—they had Reirei’s litter a while before Mufasa and Sarabi had Simba. Her parents were dead by the time that she and Goigoi would get together, but Reirei had been taught that it was better to take what you want at the expense of others rather than follow the circle of life. She had also been taught about Pridelander tradition, so she knew just how to take advantage.
