Description
Many years into their reign, when his sister’s four cubs were already adolescents, King Kion and Queen Rani would welcome two children of their own: heir to the Tree of Life Prince Taara ("star") and future guard Princess Atiena ("guardian of the night")
Taara would be the first male heir to come around since Janna's father, and Atiena was the beginning of the new tradition (that being a Lion Guard at the Tree in the fashion of the Pridelands). It was the start of a different era for sure 
I drew the twins a while back, but gave them slightly updated designs--just warming up the colors

This is pretty awesome! I'm kind of torn between giving Kion and Rani cubs or not in my headcanon too. I mean I gave Kiara a boy, Vitani a girl, so I wonder if twins would sort of balance it out?

Twins sounds fun! But not having an heir could be interesting too—that would leave Baliyo as the next in line, I suppose, or his kids.

I might go with twins, simply to have the boy girl ration be even. Speaking of twins, little off topic, but I had an idea for Makini. What if instead of one, she had twin apprentices? Basically in my idea, one of them is a mandrill like her, while the other is a red panda. Basically the two are raised as brothers and while one excels on the spiritual side, the other one specializes in medicine.

Yeah, they were orphans that Makini adopted basically. In fact I had this cool idea for a story where the two boys are put on a "Trail to Udugu" sort of journey in order to decide who will inherit Makini's position. The journey helps them bond as brothers and they each realize their special talents. And in the end, they realize they are both meant to succeed Makini. And when they return to the Tree of Life, Makini is so proud of her boys. Trying to decide who should be older? The red panda? or the mandrill? I mean the red panda being the eldest would go with the "little big brother" trope, but that's been done a lot.

Both Kion and Rani’s colors ended up being kind of overpowering, so making an even kid who still looks good is pretty tough. I think they’ve got a decent amount of Kion’s side, just kinda subtly (Atiena has his brown nose and Nala’s ear shape, Taraa looks a lot like Simba imo) but they’ll both look more like him when they get older—the girl has his orange eyes, the boy has a dark red mane
