Prompt: The turtle outruns the hare

Season: Spring 2023

Characters: Caltha, Calypso, Hein, Vesemir (NPC)

Description: With Phidite's retreat, a wave of golds and greens had swept through the prairie, and with the emergence of spring came the drive for self-improvement. Out in the fields, a small group of wolves were in pursuit of this endeavor. Among them stood two noticeably scarred males barking commands at the sparring she-wolves between them. Both females, their pelts like the rustic shades of autumn, leapt and clashed repeatedly. Wild eyes, fangs flashing and furious snarls. This was no game, this was preparation for duels against death. While both girls were still far off from being skilled warriors, they had agreed to get the basics down first. More advanced techniques could come later.

In the end, an exhausted Caltha rolled over and yielded, giving Calypso the victory. In terms of both power and stamina, it was clear that the larger wolf took the lead. The Inferí was still flat on the ground, trying to calm her pounding heart, when she felt a gentle nudge on her shoulder. She looked up to see a pair of golden eyes beaming down at her, "Nice work, you lasted a lot longer this time!"

Caltha snortled as she rolled onto her feet and chirped compliments in return, happy to see her friend brimming with such confidence.

"No, no, no!" she heard her cousin snap sourly behind her, "You're supposed to trip her when she comes close, dummy!"

"No fair! I yielded and her guard was down!" Caltha growled right back and the pair descended into a snarky back-and-forth, prompting Calypso and Hein to burst into laughter.

Another collab with TheStarvingRaven featuring Calypso, and Sumi's Hein as a guest cameo ;D. I drew the chars and colors, while Raven did the shading, the blur effects and the background. And ahhh, it looks so good!! Look at that sunny prairie, I can feel the sweltering heat :')

It seemed apt to have our Cals sparring together, since winter threw rogues at the both of them and they wanted to improve their fighting skills. I do see Caltha struggling with this, not wanting to fight unless she really has to. But I think Calypso has the athletic ability to be a great fighter x3
