still think those delicate charcoal things that're vague and small, yet highly rendered are the best parts of this.

This is absolutely amazing. Awe-inspiring. And it's abstract enough to give people the liberty to make up your own image in their head (I see boat in a storm). Usually this kind of abstract art is only done with digital mediums, but after seeing this I don't think they can stand a chance to your style of doing it. Steller, to say the least.

And what's linseed oil, by the way?

thank you for that great comment. Linseed oil is just one of many of the mediums used to thin oil based paints.

Wow... I know little or nothing about oil paintings (I just use normal paint thinners, which isn't terribly interesting). I have a few Van Gogh immitations and some crappy original ones, but they're back in Costa Rica. I'll ask my parents to try to take some pictures of them (I'd love some advice).

By the way, what brand of paints do you usually use?

Perfect-Clone In reply to thirdwaltz [2005-01-03 13:54:01 +0000 UTC]

um my brand of paint, whatever I can afford actually, Im poor now, but winsor newton has some good paints and senelier -(spelling) is also good. Honestly diff. brands are better at making different colors so its good to mix it up a little.

ah, that is beautiful. I love the use of colour, the rusty coppers with the blue/green in the corner really balance the image out. the marks made are really effective, how did you create the thicker circular marks in the centre of the piece? I think they stand out as they seem more controlled than the rest of the piece. But it's really beautiful, kind of like a nebula.

Perfect-Clone In reply to annalouise-art [2004-12-22 14:29:57 +0000 UTC]

thank you so much, the circles were mad by appying paint to a large brush and rotating it like you would a compas

annalouise-art In reply to Perfect-Clone [2004-12-22 14:48:10 +0000 UTC]

no problem : ) was it quite a thin layer of paint? or did you use quite a lot of paint on the brush for that, i just thought if you used too much it might just create a big circular smudge, and the brush marks on your piece are really fine and delicate :\

Perfect-Clone In reply to annalouise-art [2004-12-22 20:07:18 +0000 UTC]

yeah, it was not to much paint on the brush+ I left the brush kind of dry so that it wouldnt become one smudge shape.

Uh, holy crap? I think you've achieved pretty much what you were aiming for, and with flying colours (nice choice of, as well.)
The calm greens in the top corner really does that relaxing thing for me, whereas the reds - and really freakin' interesting patterns - definitely give the impression of an explosion of some kind. Ugh, amazing. Fave.
