C is for Cybersix.Cybersix was airing on Teletoon and I caught it by complete accident. I had only seen about 4 episodes before the final one aired, and yet I still felt very emotional about the ending. I watched the whole series when it showed reruns. I loved it. It could have been less MOTW for sure but I loved the character interactions and the designs, oh, the designs! Even now, 11 years later, I still wish they had made a second season to finish it off properly.
Maaan this one took me forever to draw. I had about 10 different "final" rough sketches that I doodled at work but when I scanned them in I ended up drawing something completely different in Paint Tool Sai. Gone were the action poses I had planned and in my head a different idea... a very quiet Cybersix.
For those who don't know the story (please Youtube it immediately), Cybersix is an escaped experiment. To get away from her evil creator, she disguises herself as Adrian, a male glasses-sporting teacher. Adrian's best friend and colleague is Lucas, who is also Cybersix's love interest and is unawares of her daytime identity. I like to think she wrestled with the idea of telling him, and here she's sitting on his rooftop contemplating about it.

Paint tool Sai, I don't wanna think about the hours. Tried to stick to the style of the show, including the clouds which were hard because they're completely opposite of my usual poofy cloud style.

Wow, this is seriously the best fanart I've seen of Cybersix, just because it looks just like the cartoon. The style in general is hard for me to do, of the Japanese animated Cybersix and 90s comic version. Takes a lot of effort to get it right.
Great job with your colouring, the positions, and the clouds should have been pretty hard for you, and the background fits and her cape looks awesome!
She looks so beautiful and elegant here, holding Adrian's glasses makes a good moment of thinking, showing her complex character. Personally, I don't think Lucas should never find out about her secret identity, that would defeat the purpose, he doesn't even find out in the comics.
I used to watch this show, it was so great, and now I'm reading the comics and I enjoy that just as much. It's considered a classic.
Great art, writing, deep and mature, and the cartoon has great animation, they adapted it well for children and the series finale leaves things concluded with Cybersix and Lucas but still leaves room for more.
And can I just throw out there that James Cameron ripped off of Cybersix with Dark Angel? I feel like a nerd sometimes. I just wish they would make Cybersix into a movie or continue with a second season. I'm still hoping.

The comic is weird. It's a lot more sexual, and even little Jose is absolutely sex-crazed. It's darker and just not as... lovely I guess. :/

OMG!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! THIS SHOW WAS MY LIFE!!! Seriously, for a whole year I considered it my favourite show... but alas it only lasting a short time it couldn't quite compare to the rest. But I have such a nostalgic feeling about the show. It was so fresh and unique. The voice actors were great, the stories were compelling and the music was beyond iconic (that theme song? *whistles* one of the best there is). And wasn't it funny how she was a big ol' cross-dresser. Heheheheheh. I always wanted them to do an action figure of her where you would snap her hair up to be Adrian and down to be Cybersix. >.< The imagination of a child.
Seriously, thank you for doing this piece and mustering up nostalgia.

And OMG WHAT A BRILLIANT IDEA FOR A TOY!!!! hahaha snap-up hair, fantastic. Actually when I was in animation school we had a project for character design class where we had to talk about a cartoon character's design. I wish I could remember more about what the project required but I chose Cybersix. It was interesting actually, I took pics of her and Adrian and talked about how it wasn't just the hair that changed, her jawline softened and her fingers as Adrian are shorter and manlier than the long delicate claws she has as Cybersix. It's interesting, there was a scene in... I think the Hairy Eye episode, where Lucas collapses and, as Adrian, she cradles his head and so you see Adrian but they chose to put Cybersix's hands in for the shot and it really takes you out of it for a moment. Haha sorry, character design ramble!

Yes, we Canadians do rock. There was a time that YTV and Teletoon were my life. Back when both aired craploads of superhero shows and decent anime. God, I remember sometimes putting Teletoon on late at night and just watching the cheesiness that was Super Friends. >.< And Scooby-Doo at lunch. Oops. Reminiscing too much sorry.
That's really interesting. I don't think I ever noticed that about her design. But I would likely now. That finger thing would certainly be distracting.
(And OMG the Hairy Eye episode! That's totally the one I always think of when I think of the series!)

Yeah I would not want to be in that hot outfit for sure haha.
Table costs depend on the con. Some as low as 20$, some as high as 350$. AN I can't remember how much it is but trying to get a table at ANorth is an impossible task :/ I think something crazy like over 1000 artists apply every year but there are only 100 tables so... it's really tricky!

They aired this in the States too, but they actually EDIT it and CUT OUT 2 whole episodes! (the one with the Asian boy and the one where Cybersix is Adrian the whole episode. I need to watch this again.... so great to have an awesome female hero who is not a sidekick or spin off, ya know? HUZZAH!!!

I thought they edited like.. HALF of it. "OMG a female superhero! It doesn't appeal to the Digimon and Medabots demographic!" or considering it aired on lovely conservative FOX, "the idea of a woman posing as a man might give children IDEAS about CROSSDRESSING or that WEARING LEATHER is a HEALTHY pasttime!!!" I think the two eps I saw on there, the one about the giant floating eyeball and the one about the gargoyles in the subway were both edited down.
Why the Yoshimoto one or the Daylight Devil one (my fave episode too!) were cut is beyond me.

P.s. toootally thought of you yesterday. We had a conference about what to do after Japan (job searching strategies and stuff) and they talked about blowing the dust of ye old resume so I doodled a picture of me blowing dust off a floppy disk titled "resume" and then me realizing none of my computers have a floppy disk drive and me throwing it into the ocean. Where Ariel promptly chases after it excitedly like a dog after a bone as it sinks to the bottom of the ocean. I laughed out loud and then realized i couldn't show it to anyone here because they would never understand my skewed sense of humor. Only you understand me, Trisha, only yoooouuuuu!

ahh~~~~ this brings back memories.... I watched Cybersix every night for sooo long! I'd seen every episode multiple times... I even somehow managed to get my mom hooked on it! (She's had a cybersix wallpaper on her desktop for years now lol)
It's great to see some fanart of this series, not many people have heard of it, but I think it seriously deserves a lot more love
