I don't have any need for any type of stargate type thing but now I wish I did. This is brilliant

Each stargate uses the constellations of the world it is on. Go back and take a closer look at the symbols of off-world gates in SG-1. You will notice that they are different from those that are on the Earth gate. Even in the original movie, the off-world gate had different constellations.
To dial another planet, one uses the constellations to navigate basically. So if you want to dial to Planet A from Planet B, you look at Planet Bs constellations and locate which ones Planet A is nearest (in terms of 3D space), and finally use Planet B as the 7th point of origin.
To figure out a planet's location by just looking at the night sky is next to impossible without a computer. The only explanation I can come up with that explains how Daniel and Sam were able to dial back to Earth lickity split in the show, is that they, at one point, discovered a formula that allowed them to turn the 36 constellations into galactic coordinates and as long as you know the location of your world, you can easily dial back. It would also explain how they're able to create the Galactic Bridge in SGA. Because if the gates were actually dependent on the planet's constellations, theoretically they should not work elsewhere.
But anyway... your deviation. I don't see how you can claim that you cannot duplicate the original stargate with your current ability. I say you can based on this work alone. You had to be able to create all the parts of the gate somehow, right? Surely you can apply that skill to creating the original too?
Beautiful stargate and an interesting design nontheless.

I state I can't because, as shown in the tutorial (that you have certainly read I see), the basic parts of the shape as simple rings, ring sections and ring coronas. The actual Stargate is a (great) bit more complicated then this X) Not to mention the rest, I still lack of confidence in managing triangles and similar shapes when related to circular sections.
Another thing: these symbols are 24, not 39! So I couldn't reproduce the original ones anyway X) I provided a void portal in which anyone can insert his/her own symbols anyway.
A part from this, I am really glad that my work is appreciated also by a great fan and expert of the show like you :3 With my skills improving (and if people use it) I may try to create different designs, but I'm still happy to have created my own (besides, Orlin built up a Stargate in Samantha's house using a breadtoaster 8D it must have had much of a design!)

In reference to barbossamonkey's post on 7/12/2012: I know that my comment is 7 years late... But... I just wanted to point out for the record that actually only in the original 1994 film "Stargate" are the symbols of the constellations different on each planet (plus there is no evidence in the movie to suggest that more than two stargates exist).

In order to create a viable TV series (and make it "work") some changes had to be made to the premise outlined in the movie. The symbols on the stargates were one of the things that had to be adjusted (for various logistical reasons). That fact was either alluded to, stated, or explained to some degree multiple times throughout the series—most memorably for me in the pilot episode of SG Universe—that (38 of) the constellation symbols of all the stargates in the milkyway galaxy were based on the appearance of the constellations as seen from Earth. Each world's gate is supposed to have one glyph unique to that world which represents the planet itself—the point of origin. However, a careful scrutinizing study of various details reveals that the producers cheated a little bit here and there on that. (For one thing, in multiple episodes the point of origin glyph of a planet is seen to be one of the regular glyphs on the earth stargate.)

This change was made to 'how the stargates work' not only because that made it possible for each planet to have the same gate address from anywhere in the galaxy (most importantly Earth for SG-1)—explaining how SG-1 could always dial back to Earth so quickly in a crisis, but it was also done to save $$ by reusing the same props from one episode to another. The process for the creative/artistic/prop departments of having to design unique sets of 39 constellation symbols and create corresponding props for each stargate and DHD on each planet would be a nightmare. And the very difficult, complex process of re-calculating earth's gate address from each planet would create a major "plot thorn" in virtually every episode for the writers.
Of course the stargates in the pegasus galaxy (from SG Atlantis) have their own set of constellations, and the stargates from SG Universe do not have constellations at all. Plus the gates are all the same on all the worlds in all the galaxies along destny's course.

I'm surprised & confused by the statement above because it is fairly easy to quickly determine that the glyphs on the stargates & DHDs throughout SG-1 are the same. Unfortunately no specific episodes were referenced which show a stargate with unique symbols for review so I can't directly respond with evidence regarding that claim. But I encourage anyone interested or in doubt to go back and take a closer look at any episode of SG-1 which features an off-world stargate, or to perform a quick internet search. This would reveal references which support that the symbols (which represent constellations but not points of origin except for up to 38 gates whose point of origin IS one of the constellation symbols) are indeed the same on all the stargates on SG-1.
My intention is not to be argumentative or contentious but to simply supply accurate information for anyone interested. I apologize if I've come across as impolite or disrespectful in some way.
