Description You asked, and I painstakingly took pictures to show it! I hope it's clear enough. I made this since I'm still constantly learning new techniques myself and the best way to understand what you're doing more is to teach others.

Did you do anything to her hair, or is it just that straight?

Please follow the link. The factory paint removal is covered in the tutorial using 100% acetone.

Thank you!

I just read this tutorial and I have a question: Do the pencils have to be watercolour or will say, regular Prismacolours suffice? I have a 48 set (plus two greys) of Prismacolours I have yet to use. ^.^;

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

periwinkleimp In reply to HotaruThodt [2012-07-23 07:25:58 +0000 UTC]

Yes, they do have to be watercolor. The reason is that the watercolor is more chalky/pastel in consistency compared to regular pencils.

The regular pencils *sort of* work but you'll have to do more layers since they don't rub on to the surface as well as watercolor. If you plan to use them on an acrylic painted surface, you might be able to make that work too.

Okay, thank you for getting back to me so quickly. I think if I can afford it I'll just try to invest in a small set of watercolours. Prismacolours may be too soft for the detail work.

this might be a stupid question but why doesshe have spots on her face. and do you do wigs? i got a bjd and she is bald at the moment because i refuse to get her one of those fuzzy "fur" wigs :/ great job with the faceup. I was researching on faceup removal and found out the safest one is simply green...for plastic dolls at least.

periwinkleimp In reply to pirateluv [2012-07-18 23:55:18 +0000 UTC]

The spots on her face were meant to give her that granite effect. I just had the misfortune to have one where the plastic had the darker spots mixed in too close together.

I don't do wigs, but I'm trying to develop a yarn based one. I agree, I really don't like the way fur wigs look but some types of yarn actually look nice. Check this out! [link] If you manage to make one before me, lemme know. I wanna see! I'm trying out different types to see what kind doesn't unravel into shreds. I've seen some that look really good on Blythes.

Is "Simply Green" a brand name? I also found someone using something called "Tea Tree Oil" as a safer (nicer smelling) alternative to acetone. I'd like to give it a try since it's a big plus that it's organic.

I made a fur wig but i dunno..maybe i need a better quality fur. the ones i've seen on etsy are alright but i wanted one made out of synthetic hair that isn't like $30 bucks.
I've made human-sized wigs back when i was in cosmetology ,maybe i can make a smaller version for dolls...

the yarn one you showed me looks pretty good! you can probably even flat iron it .i've flat ironed yarn with a paper towel as a barrier and it works fine.

here is the link to the faceup removal video where they talk about simply green [link] .it explains the benefits of using it as opposed to acetone.

If you make a wig out of synthetic hair, I want one! I bet you can make an even better one with your experience in cosmetology. Those wigs are well made and pretty!

I guess the upside for using acetone is that it's cheap and accessible to everybody, anywhere. I looked up Simply Green and it costs about $5... compared to the acetone I use which is $1 and pretty much wipes heads clean. I only really have to be careful with acetone when it's anywhere near hard plastic but it's harmless to soft vinyl.

The only other method I use is using Newton & Brush Cleaner with Magic Eraser. Acetone is okay for most commercial dolls like Barbie, Monster High and maybe even Momoko but if you deal with Resin or ABS you really have to be careful and it's worth paying extra for something like Simply Green.

You make me wanna work on another Hujoo... Hnggg.

hey there ! I just wanted to let you know I made the wig for my hujoo tonight, i will post a pic so you can see what it looks like and let me know if you want one.Or maybe I can teach you how to make it since you like doing custom bjd

YES! I would love to it and I would appreciate it if you could teach me how! I occasionally do some custom bjds from scratch so this would be so useful. Thank you!

It is so beautiful. I am amazed that you were even able to manage that kind of quality with human hair! I had tried to use my hair for doll reroots one time but gave up because it was too silky and I couldn't keep them bunched up!

A tutorial would be very much appreciated!

periwinkleimp In reply to LiberLibelula [2012-07-18 18:10:54 +0000 UTC]

I really think they should have gone with blue eyes for her since they seem to be using more pink in their palette lately. I hope they go back to the old color schemes and tone down the purples and pinks since it's already used too much in Barbie's line. X3

LiberLibelula In reply to periwinkleimp [2012-07-19 09:28:38 +0000 UTC]

I supose they didnΒ΄t want Rochelle to be too grey and decided to add a very "candy" color that girls usually like, some light pink. Well, I can understand that, but if eventually a Rochelle comes to my hands, her hair will turn dark blue and all the pink will DIE mwahahahahaha...

periwinkleimp In reply to ShayleaGallagher [2012-07-18 04:09:34 +0000 UTC]

It's just that she was so pink! Well no, I had too many "pink" monsters. I gave her blue eyes to contrast with her pink hair. They seem to stand out more now that they match with the streaks.
